Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday will embark on a visit to Croatia, the first-ever trip by an Indian Prime Minister. The visit is viewed as a major milestone in bilateral ties, highlighting India's growing engagement with Europe.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi's trip reflects India's commitment to further strengthening its partnerships with European nations.
What's On PM Modi's Agenda
PM Modi will hold bilateral discussions with Croatian Prime Minister Plenković and also meet President Zoran Milanović.
Prime Minister Modi will also pay a visit to the Homeland Memorial in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. He will take a walk through the city to engage with the public, said Arun Goel, Ambassador of India to Croatia.
Goel said that since this is the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister, it is set to place the bilateral relationship on a new trajectory. In the coming decades, many new areas of cooperation may emerge—some of which cannot be fully anticipated today, he added.
Goel said that India will offer various opportunities across different domains — such as space-based applications, telecom, digital interfaces, infrastructure, and healthcare. In these sectors, India presents valuable options to support the growth of the Indo-Pacific region, he highlighted.
The Indian envoy said in the current unstable global environment, Croatia is naturally exploring new partnerships and opportunities. 'The people of Croatia have long shared a deep connection with India, having embraced and appreciated Indian culture and ethos over the years," he said.
Goel said India's measured and restrained response through Operation Sindoor was appreciated by everyone in Croatia.
'Croatia itself has experienced terrorism, fundamentalism, and extremism. When the Pahalgam episode took place, we were shocked. I received messages from many Croatians on my personal phone. India's measured and restrained response through Operation Sindoor was appreciated by everyone in Croatia. If you speak to anyone on the street, you'll find Croatians strongly endorsing India's approach. They are solidly with India," he said.
