This story was originally published on A 64-year-old man from Portland has been sentenced to four years in federal prison after traveling across state lines to have sex with minors, according to a news release from Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller Tuesday. Marc David McCool was arrested on May 16, 2024, after arriving at a Seattle-area hotel where he believed he would meet a 7 and 11-year-old for sex. According to case records, McCool had initially reached out to a social media ad posted by undercover agents. For more than six weeks, police said McCool described his sexual interest in children over the Kik Messenger app. Ultimately, McCool decided to travel to Seattle. He was arrested after traveling by train and a rideshare to a Seattle hotel. When police arrested McCool, they allegedly found condoms, baby oil, rope, and stuffed animals. In court, McCool said his life has been forever changed. He told the judge he had lost everything and harmed his relationships with everyone he loves. He expressed hope of receiving treatment while in prison. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigation as part of the Seattle Police Department Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

Armenian crime rings charged with attempted murder, $83M Amazon cargo theft

Federal authorities on Tuesday arrested 13 alleged members of rival Armenian crime organizations locked in an apparent power struggle in Los Angeles County. The charges include attempted murder, kidnapping, illegal firearm possession, bank and wire fraud, and cargo theft totaling more than $80 million, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release. Among the defendants are Ara Artuni, 41, of Los Angeles, who is charged with attempted murder in aid of racketeering, and Robert Amiryan, 46, of Hollywood, who is charged with kidnapping. Authorities say both men were leaders of rival Armenian organized crime syndicates, referred to as 'avtoritet,' which is Russian for 'authority,' and that they have been engaged in a violent feud to maintain control of the San Fernando Valley since 2022. Artuni is charged with ordering the attempted murder of Amiryan during the summer of 2023. In retaliation, Amiryan allegedly conspired with members of his own criminal organization to kidnap and torture one of Artuni's associates in June 2023. In addition to attempted murder, authorities say Artuni and his criminal enterprise committed bank fraud, wire fraud and cargo theft. Artuni and his organization allegedly targeted e-commerce giant Amazon by enrolling as carriers for the online retailer. Artuni and his men would contract trucking routes with Amazon, and while transporting the goods, diverge from the route and steal all or part of the shipments. The Artuni enterprise allegedly stole more than $83 million from Amazon, according to estimates provided by the company. 'This transnational criminal organization operated with the structure and brutality of an international cartel, inflicting significant harm on public safety and causing substantial damage to legitimate commerce and supply chains,' Dwayne Angebrandts, Homeland Security Investigation's Los Angeles acting deputy special agent in charge, said in a statement. Artuni's organization also reportedly ran a 'credit card bust-out' scheme in which it charged credit cards to a fake business and then 'drained the business account' before credit card companies could collect the disputed funds. Several other arrests were made in the Los Angeles area and two more in Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood, Florida. Authorities continue to look for one defendant. Federal agents seized more than $100,000 in cash, 14 firearms and three armored vehicles in the May 20 operation, which included assistance from the Los Angles and Burbank police departments. If convicted of all charges, the defendants could face maximum sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison. CBP officers seize $875K in marijuana disguised as a shipment of men's overalls

US Customs and Border Protection officers in Baltimore seized $875,000 in marijuana after it was discovered in a shipment disguised as men's overalls. Officers found more than 200 pounds of the psychoactive drug concealed inside 155 vacuum-sealed packages April 29, according to a press release from CBP. The drug-filled packages were being shipped via air cargo to Belgium and were labeled as 'brace overalls for men / heavy duty workwear bib.' The marijuana, which has a street value of around $875,000 in the US, could have a value of two to three times that amount in Europe, depending on its potency, CBP said. CBP officers noted in the release there's an ongoing trend of transnational criminal organizations trying to ship US-based marijuana overseas to Europe and Africa, where 'high-quality weed can fetch huge profits.' 'Smugglers, including transnational criminal organizations, based in oversaturated marijuana markets, attempt to generate revenue by illegally exporting bulk shipments to markets across the globe,' Jason Kropiewnicki, CBP's acting area port director for the Area Port of Baltimore, said in a statement. The incident is being investigated by special agents with Homeland Security Investigation's Border Enforcement Security Task Force, CBP said. Officers found more than 200 pounds of the psychoactive drug concealed inside 155 vacuum-sealed packages April 29. US Customs and Border Protection CBP officers noted in the release there's an ongoing trend of transnational criminal organizations trying to ship US-based marijuana overseas to Europe and Africa, where 'high-quality weed can fetch huge profits.' Sean ‘Diddy' Combs's tangled network of allegations, lawsuits

Sorry, a summary is not available for this article at this time. Please try again later. Sean 'Diddy' Combs, once a towering force of hip-hop and cultural power, now finds his sprawling empire on the brink of collapse. Since November 2023, the rap mogul has faced more than 70 sexual assault lawsuits, federal raids of his homes and, most gravely, federal charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution as he sits in a Brooklyn jail, awaiting the start of his trial on May 5. The federal indictment alleges Combs 'subjected victims to physical, emotional, and verbal abuse' to engage in drug-fueled sex parties known as 'freak offs.' Dozens of his accusers also claim they were unwittingly drugged before being sexually assaulted. Combs has denied all of the allegations against him. Sean 'Diddy' Combs at a 2007 White Party. Many of the alleged assaults took place at parties Combs hosted. (Bryan Bedder/CP/Getty Images) Homeland Security Investigation agents raid Combs's home in Miami Beach on March 25, 2024. (Giorgio Viera/AFP/Getty Images) Combs's attorney has called the growing number of lawsuits against him a 'money grab' and said that Combs 'is an easy target for accusers who attempt to smear him,' due to his fame and estimated $300 million fortune. Before his arrest, Combs took to Instagram to defend himself, writing: 'Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.' Story continues below advertisement Advertisement Amid this deluge of shocking developments are more than 100 people — accusers, attorneys, associates and alleged accomplices — entangled in his legal troubles. The Washington Post analyzed every lawsuit against Combs to map the key players and unravel the intricate web of alleged wrongdoings tied to the rapper's name. The Post will continue to update this file on a monthly basis. 78 lawsuits have been filed against Combs as of May 1 Hover over diamondHover over each diamond to see info about lawsuits Nov. 16, 2023 April 15, 2025 14 7 1 Lawsuits filed by day Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura Accused Combs of physical, emotional and sexual abuse starting from 2005. The floodgates opened in November 2023, when R&B singer Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura accused Combs of rape, sex trafficking and other abuses in a lawsuit, before settling with Combs the next day. An onslaught of accusations followed. One accuser admitted to inconsistencies in her high-profile case, and eventually withdrew her lawsuit. Others have since filed amended complaints that have removed the names of several notable defendants. Of the 78 lawsuits so far, four have been settled, dropped or dismissed. Twenty-seven have motions to dismiss, meaning the defense is asking the court to drop the case, with more pending. A judge can grant the motion, dismissing the case or just specific claims (a partial dismissal), or deny it, allowing the case to proceed. 'It is unfortunate that anyone can file a complaint even without any proof. No matter how many lawsuits are filed, it won't change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex-trafficked anyone — man or woman, adult or minor,' Combs's attorneys told The Washington Post in a statement. 'Fortunately, a fair and impartial judicial process exists to separate fact from fiction, and Mr. Combs is confident that he will prevail in court.' Among the accusers are public figures and former employees, such as singer Dawn Richard and Rodney 'Lil Rod' Jones, who detailed years of alleged wrongdoing. But more than half of the complaints against Combs have been brought by anonymous accusers who describe brief but harrowing encounters with the rapper, each echoing a pattern of abuse, coercion and control at the heart of his legal troubles. So far, at least five of Combs's accusers have amended their lawsuits to include their names. Key people in the Combs lawsuits Graphic showing list of key people involved in the Combs lawsuits. Shawn Carter, known as Jay-Z, was also briefly wrapped up in the scandal and is now suing his accuser after she dropped her lawsuit accusing him and Combs of rape. Their inclusion has raised questions about the extent of knowledge within elite circles regarding Combs's alleged misdeeds and the influence he wielded to carry out the alleged abuse.
