Girl killed when dirt bike hits mailbox & is run over by unknown vehicle, SC coroner says

A 14-year-old girl was killed when the dirt bike she was a passenger on crashed before it was run over in a hit-and-run collision, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office. Warrenville's Faith Williams was the dirt bike rider who died Friday, Coroner Darryl Ables said. The two-vehicle collision happened at about 6:20 p.m. on S.C. 421/Augusta Road, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. In the 1600 block of Augusta Road, near the intersection with Langley Street, a Honda 80R dirt bike was driving north on the sidewalk, Glover said. The dirt bike crashed into a mailbox then spilled into the road where it was hit by an unknown vehicle that was driving south on Augusta Road, according to Glover. The unknown vehicle then drove away, Glover said. Faith died at the scene, according to Ables. Glover said the dirt bike driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported. There was no word if either of the dirt bike riders were wearing a helmet. Ables said that both his office and the Highway Patrol are investigating to determine if Faith's injuries were caused by the initial crash, which he called an accident, or being struck by the vehicle. An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, according to Ables. The unknown vehicle might have suffered damage to the front passenger side, Ables said. Anyone with information about the collision, or the vehicle and driver involved, is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621 or 800-768-1503, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip. Tips can also be texted to *HP. Through Feb. 23, at least 92 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported. At least four people have died in Aiken County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 28 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
