Honor Flight 51 returns to Kern County
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Honor Flight 51 returned Thursday night as Kern County residents gathered at the airport to welcome the veterans home. Honor Flight departed from Bakersfield on Tuesday to Washington, D.C. where nearly 100 Kern County veterans were able to visit several memorials built in their honor. They returned to Meadows Field Airport at around 8:30 p.m. Congressman Vince Fong said it was amazing to be able to hear the stories of the veterans. Honor Flight 51 arrived in Washington D.C. on Tuesday and has since visited several places, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. Honor Flight 51 will return to Kern County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Kern County residents are invited to go to Meadows Field Airport tonight to welcome the returning veterans. Honor Flight 51 to return from Washington, D.C. Thursday night
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Honor Flight 51 is set to return to Kern County from Washington, D.C. on Thursday night. After landing in Washington, Kern County veterans visited several memorials, including the World War II Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial and the Navy Memorial. They also visited the Arlington National Cemetery. Kevin Ormonde, a guardian on the trip, said his father was a Korean War veteran who wasn't physically able to join the 51st Honor Flight. Being from a military family, Ormonde said being able to hear the other veterans' stories was the highlight of this trip for him. Honor Flight 51: World War II veteran visits memorial built in his honor Ormonde said being able to come along as a guardian on Honor Flight 51 meant a lot to him. 'Just to be a part of it and just to be a help in some ways to our veterans to give a little bit back to them for the incredible amount of stuff they did for us,' Ormonde said. Honor Flight 51: Returning colonel shares his great honor
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A returning colonel from Bakersfield who joined Honor Flight 51 on Tuesday said he wishes to give back to his community. On a bus ride to the Korean Memorial on Wednesday, Steve Brewer said he has been thanked for his service for many years and wants to give back to the community now. Honor Flight 51 arrives at Washington, D.C. on Tuesday Brewer said due to his retirement, he now has time to stay connected with the veterans and everyone else who supports Honor Flight. Honor Flight 51: World War II veteran visits memorial built in his honor
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A World War II veteran shared his thoughts upon visiting a memorial built in his honor in Washington, D.C. Wednesday morning. Kern County veterans departed from Meadows Field Airport as part of Honor Flight 51 on Tuesday and landed in Washington that night. The first stop on the trip was at the World War II Memorial. Honor Flight 51 arrives at Washington, D.C. on Tuesday Billy Burke, the only World War II veteran on the flight, said he was drafted to the military when he was 18 years old.
