Siblings at war to claim father's throne? In Telangana, Kavitha-KTR rift deepens, triggering fresh split rumours within KCR's BRS

In a fresh twist to the growing internal conflict in Telangana's Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), senior party leader and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha has accused some top leaders within her own party of trying to merge BRS with the BJP. Kavitha, who is the daughter of BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), said she strongly opposed this move, even while she was in jail last year in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case . Speaking to the media at her home on Thursday, Kavitha criticised the party leadership, indirectly pointing to her brother and BRS working president, KT Rama Rao (KTR), for not acting against these 'internal coverts'. She also accused the leadership of ignoring attacks from the Congress party and staying silent during what she called a planned campaign to defame her. Kavitha said, 'When I was in jail, there was talk of merging BRS with BJP. I told my father that the party should remain independent, even if it meant I stayed in jail for another year.' She added that her efforts were always aimed at strengthening the party, and that backstabbing was not part of her nature. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Horiens – Construindo um 2025 de realizações Horiens Saiba Mais Undo Claims of internal betrayal Kavitha claimed there was a conspiracy within the party to sideline her and cut off her link with KCR. She referred to the recent leak of a private letter she had written to her father, accusing party insiders of trying to harm her reputation. Instead of punishing those who leaked the letter, Kavitha said, 'they unleashed paid social media trolls and media artists, even from abroad, to malign me.' Live Events The ongoing power struggle between KTR and Kavitha has come at a difficult time for the BRS, which is marking its 25th anniversary while also dealing with legal battles related to defections by some of its MLAs who joined the Congress. As per a TOI report, experts note that succession battles usually happen when the party chief is no longer active. But in BRS's case, the fight for power has started even while KCR remains in charge. Sources told TOI that KCR's family members in the party have already split into two groups supporting either KTR or Kavitha. Letter reveals deep rift The tension became clear after Kavitha wrote a 'feedback letter' to KCR about his speech at the BRS silver jubilee meeting in Warangal. In the letter, she expressed disappointment that KCR did not strongly criticise the BJP, failed to address the important issue of BC reservations, and showed a lack of accessibility to party leaders. Party insiders say that differences between Kavitha and KTR began more than a year ago and have become sharper in recent months. Inputs from TOI
