‘Never a doubt!': Ursuline grad after 2-home run day

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown State Baseball team downed Milwaukee 10-7 for the team's first Horizon League Conference victory this season at Eastwood Field in Niles on Saturday afternoon. Watch above for an extended interview with first-year YSU Head Baseball coach Trevor Charpie! 'This is really big for us, we've been in a lot of games and we've had a habit of losing the seventh, eighth, ninth [innings] and today we did some really good things,' said Charpie. 'This kind of breaks the glass, right? We're ready to win games. This might be the thing that really turns this season around.' After the game, YSU redshirt sophomore and Ursuline graduate Brady Shannon crashed the interview with Coach Charpie. 'Never a doubt with this guy, We love him, go 'Guins,' said Shannon. The YSU standout hit two home runs in the win, one which came in his very first at-bat. He ended the day 2-for-5 and drove in two runs. This is the first conference win for the 'Guins first-year head coach. 'Elated, to be honest with you,' said Charpie. 'But it feels really good, a little monkey off the back.' Also, YSU sophomore and Sharon graduate Mikey Rodriques posted the final two outs of the game for his first career save. YSU advances to 2-16 and 1-2 in conference play. The 'Guins play Mercyhurst next at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18 at Eastwood Field. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
