Bahrain and US Go Green
TDT | Manama
Bahraini officials and US diplomats came together this week to plant trees as part of a national push to expand green spaces and build climate resilience.
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in collaboration with the US Embassy in Manama, held the afforestation event in partnership with the Horse Welfare Authority and the Southern Area Municipality.
The initiative falls under Bahrain's National Afforestation Plan, which seeks to green urban areas and promote environmental awareness among residents.
Joint Effort
Employees of the US Embassy and their families, along with participants in cultural and academic exchange programmes, joined government representatives in the tree-planting drive.
Ministry officials said the event aimed to deepen community engagement in climate action while reinforcing bilateral cooperation.
The activity reflects Bahrain's broader environmental strategy and its effort to include civil society, foreign missions, and local entities in sustainable development.
Green Milestones
Under the afforestation plan, Bahrain is targeting a twofold increase in its tree population by 2035, an interim goal toward reaching nationwide carbon neutrality by 2060.
The ministry thanked all those who took part, calling the event a model for how grassroots participation and diplomatic partnerships can support national climate targets.
