Chinese embassy donates supplies to Zimbabwean orphanage ahead of Children's Day
HARARE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe on Friday donated a batch of daily necessities to an orphanage in Harare, the African country's capital, bringing joy to children ahead of International Children's Day, which falls on June 1.
The donation was made to the Hossana Love in Africa Children's Home in Hatcliffe, a northern suburb of Harare. The orphanage was built in 2016 with the support of several Chinese businesses operating in Zimbabwe.
Addressing the handover ceremony, Lyu Renhong, wife of the Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, said the donation from the embassy and the Loving Moms, a Chinese charity group, marks China's enduring friendship and solidarity with Zimbabwe.
"The Chinese embassy and our vibrant community in Zimbabwe have always held a profound belief, which is leaving no one and no place behind. This principle guides our efforts to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Zimbabwean people, particularly our young friends," she said.
Lyu encouraged the children to embrace challenges and dream big, pledging continued support from the embassy, including scholarships, to help them pursue their education and improve their lives.
She also noted China's long-standing commitment to development in Zimbabwe, highlighting efforts to build schools, clinics, and roads across the country. "China and Zimbabwe are more than partners. We are brothers and sisters in the pursuit of progress."
Several teachers at the orphanage expressed gratitude, saying the donation would significantly help support the children's daily needs.
