Pasta sauce that 'contains pieces of glass' recalled as shoppers told 'do not eat'
The product was recalled as a "precaution" after one jar was reportedly found to be contaminated Another food recall has been issued, this time for a pasta sauce that may be "unsafe to eat". Shoppers who have bought the affected product have been slapped with a "do not eat" warning. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued another food alert today, Thursday, May 1, as Organico Realfoods has issued a recall for its Organic Alla Norma Sauce after they found it "may contain pieces of glass." The recall only affects 350g jars with the batch code 140227 and best before date of February 14, 2027. At the moment no other products from the brand have been affected. According to the food alert, the firm has recalled this particular batch as a "precaution" after it was reported that one jar was found to contain pieces of glass. The sauce, which has been made with aubergines, tomato, garlic and basil, was still on sale at Ocado for £3.50. The Organico Realfoods website seems to have removed it following the recall. Since the product is possibly unsafe to eat, shoppers have been urged not to consume the product, but to return it to the retailer it was bought from to receive a refund. The recall notice advises customers that, if the retailer does not accept the return or provide a refund, then they can get further information by contacting Organico at: sales@ Organico wrote in its recall notice: "We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused." Food alerts are generally issued by the FSA when there is a problem with a food product, meaning it should not be sold. The Realfoods by Oragnico Sauce is not the only food alert that has been posted this week, as a sandwich filler from Asda was recently found to be packaged with the incorrect use-by-date. The supermarket's recall affected its own-brand Hot & Spicy Chicken Breast Slices that weighed 160g and featured the use-by-date of May 30, 2025. Shoppers have been advised not to eat the product, but to return it to store for a refund. Asda told its customers: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations - 0800 9520101." Meanwhile, Morrisons has also issued its own recall for its The Best 6 Thick Cumberland Sausages because they may contain small pieces of blue plastic. We recently reported that the recall notice affects a pack size of 400g with the use by date of May 1, 2025. Morrisons said of its recall: "We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety."
