Lorde's New Single And Viral Moment Help Her Standing On The Charts

After teasing fans and joining them at a packed gathering in New York City's Washington Square Park recently, Lorde is officially back on the Billboard charts. The New Zealand-born superstar has kicked off a new era with the release of a special single, 'What Was That,' and the excitement surrounding the track — as well as her recent viral moment — has helped propel her back into the spotlight in America. Lorde's new track "What Was That" debuts on multiple Billboard rankings this frame. It starts out with a quick arrival on two genre-specific tallies. While it launches in fairly low positions, this is just the beginning for the singer-songwriter's latest chapter. The Grammy winner launches "What Was That" at No. 25 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, which ranks the most consumed alternative-only tunes in the U.S. The track also enters the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally at No. 31. Although it didn't sell or stream well enough to appear on charts dedicated solely to those consumption forms, it seems that between purchases, plays on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and growing radio attention, the tune performed at a level that earned it a spot on the more general rankings. As "What Was That" gains traction, Pure Heroine, Lorde's debut full-length, is also making a comeback. The album returns to three Billboard rankings this frame. While the new single isn't featured on the older set, excitement surrounding the tune's release — combined with her fan meet-up — has reignited interest in her breakout project. The track "Ribs" from Pure Heroine has emerged as a standout from this moment, thanks to her New York City non-concert, and it appears to be driving increased consumption of the release. Pure Heroine reenters the top 40 on both the Top Alternative Albums (No. 22) and the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart (No. 37). At the same time, it blasts back onto the Billboard 200, which ranks the most consumed full-lengths and EPs in the country. On that tally, Lorde reappears at No. 161. Pure Heroine has now spent at least 100 weeks on all three of the charts on which it currently appears, and its run on each one fairly matched in terms of longevity.

Haim Kickstarts Its Comeback With A New Charting Single

It's been a while since fans heard anything brand new from Haim. The sister trio stepped out of the spotlight for a bit – as much as one group can while joining Taylor Swift on her The Eras Tour – and taking time to reset, regroup, and get back into the studio. After a lengthy stretch without much new material, the band is officially back, and it didn't take long for the act's latest release to turn into a hit. 'Relationships,' the latest single by Haim, opens on a pair of Billboard rankings this frame, and it earns a top 40 strat on both of them. The cut performs best on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, which ranks the most-consumed alternative-only tracks in the U.S. every week. There, the track launches at No. 17. Just a few rungs below that position, the band also appears on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. On that tally, 'Relationships' begins its time at No. 23. That ranking features the top-performing titles that fall under both the rock and alternative umbrellas, making it slightly more competitive. As 'Relationships' lands at No. 17 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, Haim scores just its third-ever placement on that tally. Over on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, the act is far more successful. This latest debut marks its sixteenth showing on the list. 'Relationships' marks the first completely new tune from Haim in quite some time. The last track the trio released was 'Home,' which appeared on the Barbie movie soundtrack in 2023. Prior to that, the band shared a one-off single titled 'Lost Track,' which didn't make a major commercial impact. Back in 2021, the group was still promoting its album Women in Music Pt. III with the single 'Gasoline.' That track featured Swift and managed to become another special win for the band, thanks largely to the starpower that the Eras Tour powerhouse brought to the table. As Haim returns to the Billboard charts, one of its members is enjoying a solo surge at the same time. Danielle Haim appears alongside Bon Iver on a new single titled 'If Only I Could Wait,' which also reaches the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The track starts at No. 44 this period. With 'Relationships' now officially charting and a new chapter beginning, it looks like Haim is ready to jump back into full promotional mode. The band's last album, Women in Music Pt. III, dropped in 2020 and was met with critical acclaim. Five years is a long time to wait for a project, but the sisters will surely make the patience exhibited by fans worth it.
