New McDonald's sauces bring the heat more than ever
"Hot Ones"is a phenomenon that no one saw coming. The premise is, honestly, weird. If you're not familiar, the laid-back host, Sean Evans, sits down with celebrities and, over a plate of 10 chicken wings doused with progressively hotter sauces, asks them a series of thoughtful questions. The celebrities are distracted and sometimes distraught by the spicy food, which can result in unexpectedly intimate conversations, as well as some outright hilarity. "Hot Ones" launched on YouTube in 2015, and in the 25 seasons and 350 episodes since, Evans has interviewed some of the most A+ of the A-listers you can think of, and has made many of them cry. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter The likes of Tom Holland, Shaq, Jennifer Lawrence, and Margo Robbie have run the "Hot Ones" gauntlet. "'Hot Ones' - a breakthrough pop-culture phenomenon in which stars eat 10 progressively fiery wings (or, increasingly, a vegan substitute) while being asked 10 deeply researched questions - has built itself into an online pillar, holding steady amid the shifting tides of digital media," says The New York Times. Related: Pepsi makes major change that will anger some customers The show has nearly 15 million subscribers and more than 4 billion views on YouTube, plus millions of additional followers on Instagram and TikTok. No wonder McDonald's wants in on the action. McDonald's recently launched three "Hot Ones" sauces, but here's the bad news: the sauce collab is only happening in France. At least for now. McDonald's France offers: Hell Piñata: A smoky chipotle-infused mayonnaise with a mild kick, registering at a relatively mild 10,000 Scoville units. Thaï Toi: A sweet and sour blend featuring ginger and lemongrass, packing a punch at 70,000 Scoville units. Embrase-moi: A bold BBQ sauce infused with habanero peppers, reaching a gut-churning 200,000 Scoville units. Related: Trader Joe's sells out of TikTok famous treat (here's when it's back) The sauces are available with Chicken McNuggets and Veggie McPlant Nuggets in 6, 9, or 20 pieces, either à la carte or as part of a meal (excluding Happy Meals). The "Hot Ones" launch is part of a campaign featuring French rapper Naza, who takes on the spicy challenge under the guidance of host Kyan Khojandi. The McDonald's-"Hot Ones" spicy collab is only available in France for the time being, but American fans are salivating at the thought of a stateside release. Smuggling them from France even seems to be a thing. @noahsanchezofficial said, "I tried these! I took them on the plane back to Cali too lol, still have them" and @lakers209 said, "I brought back a 12 sets from my trip to France last year. They are all a lot hotter than you would expect." For now, spicy-food lovers can indulge in this funky fusion of fast food and fiery flavors, leaving the rest of us to hope it comes ashore here soon. Ana de Armas ‘Hated' Singing in Ron Howard's ‘Eden': ‘I Would Rather Do 100 Stunts'
Ana de Armas prefers to do anything else, even intense stunts, instead of sing onscreen. The actress, who will soon join the 'John Wick' franchise with 'Ballerina,' said during 'Hot Ones' in the below video that any stunt work is better than carrying a tune — something she had to do for Ron Howard's survival film 'Eden.' 'I hated it,' de Armas said. 'I remember when I talked to [director] Ron. And I was like 'Ron, I really think I should lip sync. This is not for me.' And he just didn't want to hear it. He was like 'no, you're singing. You're singing. If you do it bad, it's good for the character.' And I'm like 'yeah but people don't know that.'' More from IndieWire Pete Davidson Uncovers a Retirement Community Serial Killer in 'The Home' Trailer Bella Ramsey Wants 'The Last of Us' Fans to Watch Upcoming Indie Films Like They're 'Game of Thrones' De Armas continued, 'I just couldn't convince him to let me lip sync so I had to learn the song. It was horrible. I was terrified. I would rather do 100 stunts than sing that song. It was terrifying because it's also in front of all the actors. I just felt very exposed and vulnerable and it's not one of my talents for sure.' De Armas previously told Vanity Fair that starring in 'Eden' pushed her to get to her 'craziest' self onscreen, which is no small feat given her past dedication to portraying Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde.' 'I got a little scared, and I told [Ron] I was nervous because it was really out there,' de Armas said of joining 'Eden,' which also stars Sydney Sweeney, Jude Law, and Vanessa Kirby. 'He was very supportive and excited. There was no question I wanted to do it. I wanted the challenge.' The 'Deep Water' star added, 'Having this crazy threesome relationship, and being a woman of opposites — either she's sweet and tender and fragile and nervous and scared, or she's absolutely crazy and dangerous, it was kind of finding that limit. What was the craziest I could get? How far could I go?' At the time, director Howard praised de Armas' 'creative courage,' saying, 'She's a risk-taker as an artist, and I knew that it was going to take that kind of individual.' The IndieWire review for 'Eden' also deemed de Armas a 'scream in a cast filled with standout performances.' Chris Brown Released From British Jail on £5 Million Bail Agreement
Singer Chris Brown was released from a British jail Wednesday on a £5 milion bond after being charged with inflicting an 'unprovoked attack' on a man in a London nightclub in 2023, according to the BBC. As part of his bail conditions, Brown, 36, who had not been asked to enter a plea at the time of this article's publication, can now launch his world tour next month. 'From the cage to the stage!' he wrote on Instagram after Wednesday's bail hearing. Brown could be asked to forfeit the money if he breaks the bail agreement. His tour is scheduled to start in Amsterdam on June 8. Brown was arrested on May 15 in Manchester, England, over an alleged bottle attack that occurred in 2023. He was accused of an unprovoked attack on producer Abe Diaw at London's Tape Nightclub in Feb. 2023, when he allegedly struck him with a tequila bottle several times and punched and kicked him while he was on the floor. Most recently, Brown, who has a long history of violence-related arrests, was sued for $50 million after allegedly assaulting four concertgoers backstage in Texas. The suit, filed in July 2024, alleges that Brown and his crew severely beat the plaintiffs following the singer's performance in Ft. Worth, Texas. After one of the accusers approached him backstage to congratulate him on the show, a member of his entourage reminded Brown that they had issues. The suit states that Brown and seven to 10 members of his team proceeded to assault the victim as well as others in proximity. L.A. Aims to Lower Production Costs by Requiring Only One City Staffer on Film Sets
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is aiming to reduce production costs by requiring only a single city staffer on film and TV sets. Bass will issue an executive order on Tuesday that is also intended to streamline the permitting process for film shoots. Under current practices, multiple city staff — including firefighters and retired or off-duty police — may be required to serve as on-set monitors. Mayor Karen Bass Appoints Steve Soboroff to Lead Pacific Palisades Rebuilding Efforts Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, LA28 Chief Casey Wasserman Talk 2028 Summer Olympics Plans Political leaders are looking for ways to make Los Angeles a more attractive place to shoot, as the industry confronts a global production downturn. 'The City is taking bold action to support our legacy industry,' Bass said in a statement. 'Keeping entertainment production in LA means keeping good-paying jobs in L.A., and that's what we are fighting for.' Last month, the city council instructed staff to develop recommendations on how to make the permitting process more efficient and cost-competitive. The request included a suggestion that the number of public safety officers could be reduced. Most city-owned property is available to shoot for free. However, it can be more difficult to get permission to shoot at certain iconic locations, such as Griffith Observatory and the Central Library. Bass' order includes a provision to establish guidelines for those high-profile locales and to shorten review timelines. The order also calls for a reduction in fees. Councilman Adrin Nazarian has also called for enforcement action against parking lot owners who engage in 'price gouging' of film productions. Some in the industry complain that parking lot owners charge excessive rental fees for crew parking, though it is not clear that the law provides a remedy for that. 'Film friendliness' is a perennial issue at L.A. City Hall, as elected leaders face pressure to accommodate a signature industry. Mayor James Hahn issued an order to streamline the permitting process in February 2004. 'I know we have done this before,' he said at the time, according to a 2004 article in the Hollywood Reporter. 'A lot of people have said, 'Yeah, we have seen this; been here, done that. But whatever happened out of it?' We will make sure that the suggestion and the policy that we develop will be followed through.' The California Legislature is also looking to expand the state tax incentive for film and TV production from $330 million to $750 million per year. Jon Stewart Slams CNN for Relentlessly Promoting Book on Joe Biden's Declining Health Amid Prostate Cancer Diagnosis: ‘Doing the Story Seems Almost Disrespectful'
On this week's episode of 'The Daily Show,' Jon Stewart slammed CNN for relentlessly plugging Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's book 'Original Sin,' which outlines the decline of Joe Biden's health, amid the former president's prostate cancer diagnosis. Stewart opened the segment by playing clips of CNN's Tapper plugging his book over and over and over again, teasing that readers will 'not believe' what he dug up. More from Variety Joe Biden Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer 'Daily Show' Host Jordan Klepper Wanted to Understand Young Trump Voters: 'I Expected a Bunch of D--s ... but the Cruelty Wasn't There' Joe Biden Didn't Recognize Old Friend George Clooney at 2024 Fundraiser: Report 'Don't news people have to tell you what they know when they find it out?' Stewart asked. 'Isn't that the difference between news and a secret? 'You won't believe what we found out.' No, that's why I watch breaking news.' Stewart then played a compilation of news outlets reacting to 'Original Sin,' and all the different labels they placed on the revelations contained within it. Among them were 'bombshell allegations,' 'damming claims,' 'damaging new details' and a 'tsunami' of new information. 'Nothing could slow down this coming, feeding news frenzy about Biden's cognitive health, other than maybe a report on his actual physical health,' Stewart said, in reference to Biden's recent prostate cancer diagnosis. 'Doing the story seems almost disrespectful. Can CNN thread the needle? How do you pivot from excitedly promoting your anchor's book to somberly and respectfully promoting your anchor's book?' Stewart then played a series of snippets of CNN anchors doing just that and refusing to ignore the book. In one clip, a CNN staffer said, 'This was already going to be a tough week, and this makes it much harder. And that is a reference to the fact that our colleague, Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson have a book that's set to be published on Tuesday.' 'It's so hard, it's such a difficult time, so unfathomable in terms of the pain his family must be feeling,' Stewart said, mocking the anchors. 'And yet, if you act now, you use the code backslash tap that book, it's 20% off.'
