Police kill armed woman at hotel on Central near I-25

Jun. 17—A woman broke several items at a Southeast Albuquerque hotel, police said, before disarming a security guard and firing shots in the parking lot, near police, who fatally shot her on Tuesday morning. Police did not release the woman's name. About 4:30 a.m., a Hotel Parq Central employee called police about a woman — who police said was dealing with a mental health crisis — that wanted to be removed from the hotel, APD Chief Harold Medina said during a news conference. About 45 minutes later, a hotel employee called APD and said she broke items and had armed herself with glass, he said. As officers were en route, the woman took a security guard's firearm and started threatening people, Medina said. When officers arrived at the hotel — in the 800 block of Central, near Interstate 25 — an SUV had been hit by a bullet, and the woman was shooting in the parking lot, he said. Officers ordered her to drop the firearm when she shot an SUV in front of them, causing "more than one officer" to fatally shoot the woman, he said. No officers were injured, Medina said. Eastbound Central between High Street and I-25 will be closed while officers process the scene and conduct interviews, Medina said. The Multi-Agency Task Force is investigating the incident. Tuesday's police shooting is the second in three days involving APD. On Sunday, police shot and injured a man who allegedly robbed a convenience store.
