Tesla CEO Elon Musk says DOGE is being blamed on ‘silly misconceptions', ‘For example…'
Elon Musk has said that some wrong information is being shared about the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), the government task force led by him. Taking to microblogging site, Musk wrote: Some silly misperceptions are happening that are being blamed on @DOGE. For example, a friend's daughter was recently told that Congressional internships were cut by DOGE, which is false. Musk clarified that the claim about DOGE cutting Congressional internships is false. According to internships are handled by individual representatives, not by agencies like DOGE. The tech billionaire did not say where the rumor started but he made it clear that DOGE had nothing to do with Congressional internships being cut. DOGE was set up by an executive order that President Donald Trump signed on January 22 to find ways to make the government work better and more efficiently. Musk has been closely involved with the task force but recently said he plans to step back to spend more time on his businesses. During the first-quarter earnings call last month, Musk said that his time with DOGE will reduce 'significantly' starting this month. In a candid interview with reporters at the White House this week, he stated that DOGE 'is a way of life, like Buddhism'. When asked about his departure from DOGE and the task force's future without him, he said, 'Is Buddha needed for Buddhism?'. 'Was it not stronger after he passed away?', he asked. DOGE was originally set up to terminate on July 4, 2026. It will now reportedly continue till the end of 2028. Asked about the possibility of extending DOGE's mandate, Musk responded, "I think so," adding, "It's up to the president.' AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now

Donald Trump simply follows the playbook of tyrants from years past
President Trump's mentality is not new. It has plagued civilization for thousands of years, and one can put names to those tyrants and dictators that have cost millions of human lives. Not to mention human civilization. The American ideal has been put down on paper for all the world to see and discuss. A rule of law. Battles were fought to gain and preserve the ideal and many people died for the ideal. As a veteran I took an oath to protect and defend the ideal, the Constitution, from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I see Trump as a domestic enemy of the Constitution. This is not to mention his reduction of the American ideal to simply a 'deal' to make money over any human values. It is my duty to legally do what I can to see this person who believes himself a 'victim' is removed from office. Eugene Carlson, Fresno Earth Day is celebrated all over the world in April. This year's theme is 'Our Power, Our Planet' to recognize the need to deploy more renewable energy to power cars, homes and businesses. Using renewable energy cleans up our air and stops heating the planet caused by burning coal, oil, and gas. Opinion Washington is pulling us away from renewable energy and the progress being made toward a healthier future for our kids and grandkids. Some local Republican members of Congress have spoken up to protect the clean energy tax credits in the Inflation Reduction Act. David Valadao (R-22) and Vince Fong (R-20) should be applauded for rising above the partisan divide to try to help people in their districts. The clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act provide 50% of the reductions in dirty emissions. And even though it was originally passed by Democrats, this 2022 law is bringing millions of dollars into our Valley to fund jobs, infrastructure and innovation. If you live in a Republican district, call or email your Member of Congress and tell them you support the clean energy tax credits! You can find out who represents you at Andrea Farber De Zubiria, Fresno There is something that isn't getting much mention that should be very concerning to everyone. That is the nuclear consequences of President Trump's obsession with pulling out of NATO specifically and his pull back from worldwide security agreements generally. Right now, there are nine recognized countries with nuclear weapons capabilities. Only two became so in the last 50 years, with North Korea the latest. The United States and Russia have 87% of the world's total warheads. Obviously, the world is safer as a whole, with fewer countries having 'the bomb.' Still, every country knows that having one is a powerful deterrent to invasion. Ukraine used to have a lot of them, but gave them up in an agreement signed in 1994 with the US and Russia. In exchange for them, we both agreed to protect Ukraine from invasion. Ukraine has every right to feel betrayed by both now that Trump is jerking back help they desperately need to defend against an invasion from the other signee. Trump's refusal to protect our allies is motivation for them to develop their own nuclear arsenals. Just as nuclear North Korea is being left alone, look for other countries to seek that autonomy. Another country with nukes is a greater chance for them to fall into terrorist hands, or some nut job who just wants to see the world burn. Don Smith, Fresno I agree with the fact the California agriculture industry must not fail. The problem is corporate ag not the family farmer, who has already been killed off. I learned to live within my means, pay cash not credit, save every extra dollar I have. I now am debt free, with enough income to live and still save, with no mortgage. We live in a senior community mobile home park, and have a nice little nest egg. The corporate ag companies need to fail and family farms must return. If you don't feel the pain. you will get another president who doesn't care because he's a damn billionaire who is owned by corporate America and religious zealots and will destroy our way of life, if they haven't already. America must hurt and heal, or we will become Russia. I never thought I'd see this happen, but America is dead — corrupt politicians and corporate America own the court system. We have no protection now. It is a sad day, but it's exactly what we deserve if we continue to be a hate-filled, bigoted and racist people. Dana Bobbitt , Fresno

Boston celebrates International Women's Day with Women's March across the city
Thousands of people took to the streets in Boston for the Women's March on International Women's Day. "Today is the mission to bring women together to show them that we are the ones that are going to stand up," Organizer Ashley Parys said. Several organizations participated in the rally and march, which voiced their concerns about women's rights, healthcare, immigration, Black Lives Matter, Ukraine, and the LGBTQ+ community. Many of the comments and criticisms were directed at President Donald Trump's policies and Elon Musk. As part of the rally, protesters marched on the Boston Common, down Commonwealth Avenue, and up Boylston Street. They also made a pit stop at the Tesla store in the Prudential Center to express their opinions. "It's not just about us being loud and in big numbers; it's about what we are going to do every single day after this," Parys said. More than 2000 people participated in today's march, but they know this is just the first step, and more action is needed. "Next steps for us to get active in our communities and lift each other up and to speak out. And let our politicians know; email your politicians. It's very easy to do. it takes less than five minutes," North Shore resident Shannon Parolisi said. The march was peaceful, and there were no counter-protestors. International Women's Day celebrated Women around the world participated in demonstrations on Saturday. The day marks a call to action to raise awareness of issues that women everywhere face, such as equal pay, reproductive rights, gender-based violence, and more. The day was officially recognized in 1977 by the United Nations.

Congresswoman Deborah Ross on the tumultuous first weeks of the new Trump administration
Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02) (Photo: Whether it was his intention or not, Donald Trump has undoubtedly caused more havoc in the first few weeks of his second administration than any president in U.S. history. The sheer volume of orders, directives, memos, and PR stunts — many of them contradictory and half-baked — has given rise to an atmosphere of widespread fear and anxiety. Fortunately, a large and fast growing group of advocates and elected leaders is pushing back. And one of the most thoughtful and articulate members of that group is Triangle-area U.S. Rep. Deborah Ross. Ross (NC-02) spoke eloquently at a January rally in Raleigh opposing Trump's scheme to freeze trillions of dollars in federal appropriations and grants, and as she told NC Newsline's Rob Schofield, she and her fellow Democrats in Congress and in state government have only just begun to fight.
