Akshay Kumar ‘out of form' in Housefull 5? Netizens say he lost his ‘comic touch,' was ‘overacting'

Ever since the trailer for the highly anticipated comedy movie Housefull 5 dropped, social media has been abuzz about how Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, one of the leads in this multi-starrer, has lost his comic touch. Netizens also claimed the 'Kesari 2' actor was overacting and seemed out of form in the Housefull 5 trailer. In a Reddit post, a social media user said that they had high expectations from the Housefull 5 Trailer and were excited to see Akshay in his 'OG comedy avatar.' But to the user's surprise, judging only from the trailer, 'it felt like Akshay was not able to unleash his full comic form and whatever scenes he did felt like overacting. This is a rare time when I have felt Akshay was not at his best.' The post concluded with the user saying they have low hopes for the movie. Other netizens also chimed in to share their disappointment and said, 'I feel like the trailer was edited in the wrong way, it seemed linear, which it shouldn't actually. Not a creative edit, definitely. Akshay also wasn't in the right form.' A user said, 'Yes. Exhaustion shows on his face. His face and body have gone into auto mode while performing scenes.' 'Woi same expression woi same scripts, remake banate jao safe side me reh ke paise kamate jao. This is what Bollywood is left with. It felt like he was trying to copy his past, but couldn't, even the eiiihhh was disappointing, which he did perfectly in previous instalments,' another user added. A user hoped that his character in the movie would be written well to cover up his overacting. 'I think he overreacts, I don't have a problem... But hope his character is well written. Some of the roles, like his role in Hera Pheri OR Welcome, have well-written characters.... Hence, the comedy feels natural, but this feels a little forced.' The trailer started with a voiceover by Nana Patekar explaining the plot of the film. A billionaire is marking his 100th birthday on a luxurious yacht with a star-studded party and decides to give his inheritance to his 'Jolly'. Then, confusion starts as three Jollys claim to be the real heirs of the property: Jalabuddin (Riteish Deshmukh), Jalbhushan (Abhishek Bachchan), and Julius (Akshay Kumar). The trailer is loaded with peppy tracks, jokes and some iconic film references. At the end of the trailer, Jackie Shroff was spotted saying his son Tiger Shroff's hit 'Choti Bachchi ho kya?' dialogue. Akshay Kumar Riteish Deshmukh Abhishek Bachchan Sanjay Dutt Fardeen Khan Nana Patekar Jackie Shroff Ranjeet Johny Lever Nargis Fakhri Sonam Bajwa Soundarya Sharma Chitrangada Singh Chunky Pandey Shreyas Talpade Dino Morea Nikitin Dheer Akashdeep Sabir Housefull 5 will hit the theatres on June 6.

Housefull 5 trailer public review: Akshay Kumar brings over-the-top comedy in murder mystery, internet calls it ‘cringe'

On Tuesday, the trailer of Housefull 5 was dropped. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, it stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, Ranjeet, Soundarya Sharma, Nikitin Dheer, and Akashdeep Sabir. The trailer begins with Nana Patekar introducing a lavish 100th birthday celebration aboard a party yacht, thrown by a billionaire who surprises everyone by revealing his will for his son, Jolly. The twist comes next when it turns out there are not one but three Jollys—played by Riteish Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, and Abhishek Bachchan. The story takes a sudden turn when the billionaire is killed by someone at the party. With six prime suspects, including his sons who are unable to recall anything after being drugged, Jackie Shroff and Sanjay Dutt arrive to investigate the matter. The story is entirely set on a luxurious cruise ship, promising the same over-the-top comedy that the Housefull comedy is known for. A masked man appeared in the trailer who seemed to be the real murderer among everyone on the ship. The trailer is 3 minutes and 56 seconds. Sharing the trailer on Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote in a post: 'Welcome aboard the most unpredictable cruise ever! Get ready for chaos, comedy, and a killer twist. #Housefull5Trailer Out Now! Link in Bio. #Housefull5 releases in cinemas near you on 6th June 2025!' Reacting to the trailer, a fan wrote, 'Finally Akki (is) back with his comedy.' 'Blockbuster loading,' predicted another excited fan. Someone on X wrote, 'A comedy film cannot be judged by just a 3-4 minute trailer. Some parts of the trailer are very good while some parts are a bit average… Overall the trailer is awesome, One of the best in recent times.' 'Cheap B grade cringe,' also opined another user. Previously, the makers had dropped a teaser on April 30, marking 15 years of the Housefull series. It featured a new story, set on a fancy cruise ship and a murder mystery. Housefull 5 music is presented by T-Series. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Housefull 5 is set to release in theatres worldwide on June 6, 2025. With this release, it became the first-ever franchise film in Indian cinema to have five instalments. The first installment of Housefull was released in 2010, starring Akshay, Riteish, Lara Dutta, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, and Boman Irani. It was followed by the sequel, Housefull 2, which was released in 2012, starring Akshay, Riteish, John Abraham, Shreyas Talpade, Jacqueline Fernandez, Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, and Asin. Both the parts of the franchise were helmed by director Sajid Khan.
