Israeli navy strikes Houthi-controlled port city of Hudaydah

Israeli navy ships have struck targets in the port city of Hudaydah in Houthi-controlled Israeli military said in a statement the strikes were carried out in response to Houthi missiles targeting Israel and were aimed at stopping the use of the port for "military purposes". There were no immediate reports of posted on social media showed black plumes of smoke rising from the port, with Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reporting two separate Houthis have regularly launched missiles at Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. On Thursday, a Houthi missile was intercepted above Jerusalem, while last month one hit the grounds of Israel's main airport. The strikes on Hudaydah, which unusually were carried out by navy ships rather than aircraft, were conducted in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) earlier issued evacuation warnings to all those present in Hudaydah port, as well the other Houthi-controlled ports of Ras Isa and Salif."Due to the terrorist Houthi regime's use of seaports for its terrorist activities, we urge all those present at these ports to evacuate and stay away from them for your own safety until further notice," IDF Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on Amer, the deputy head of the Houthis' media office, wrote on X that the attack had no significant impact on the group's operations."It has no effect even on the morale of our people, who take to the streets weekly ... in support of Gaza," he port, which is the main entry point for food and other humanitarian aid for millions of Yemenis, has been the target of several Israeli strikes in the past month, one person was killed in an Israeli strike, the Houthi-run health ministry said in a statement at the time. Israeli officials said the strike would put the port out of action for around a Iran-backed Houthi group has controlled much of north-western Yemen since 2014, when they ousted the internationally-recognised government from the capital, Sanaa, and sparked a devastating civil Houthis began attacking ships passing through the Red Sea in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza after the Israeli military began a bombardment there in response to the Palestinian armed group Hamas' attack on Israel in October November 2023, the Houthis launched dozens of missile and drone attacks on commercial ships - sinking two vessels, seizing a third and killing four crew attacks forced even major shipping companies to stop using the Red Sea - through which almost 15% of global seaborne trade usually passes - and to take a much longer route around southern Africa response, former US president Joe Biden began US air strikes against the campaign ramped up after US President Donald Trump took office, until a ceasefire was reached in early May.

Israel 'severely damages' Yemen ports in new strikes

Live updates: Follow the latest on Trump's Gulf trip Israel launched strikes on Yemen on Friday, which it said had "severely damaged" Houthi-controlled ports, hours after US President Donald Trump departed the region. The Israeli military said it "struck and dismantled terrorist infrastructure" at the ports of Hodeidah and Salif, which it said were being used to transfer weapons. The Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said there were "violent raids" at the ports. There were no immediate reports of casualties. Israel and the Iran-backed Houthis have exchanged several rounds of strikes, with Sanaa's international airport knocked out of action after the Yemeni rebels landed a missile near Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. "If the Houthis continue to fire missiles at the state of Israel, they will suffer painful blows," said Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz. He said rebel leader Abdul-Malik Al Houthi could be the next top militant "eliminated" by Israel after the killings of Hamas and Hezbollah chiefs. "Just as we did to Deif and the Sinwars in Gaza, to Nasrallah in Beirut, and to Haniyeh in Tehran ... we will also hunt down and eliminate Abd Malek al-Houthi in Yemen," Mr Katz said, referring to some of the militant leaders killed by Israel. Mr Trump's administration announced a ceasefire with the Houthis this month, after a campaign of US strikes to halt attacks from Yemen on Red Sea shipping. Israel was not part of the ceasefire deal. Analysts have noted that Mr Trump's Middle East visit highlighted differences between the US and Israel, including in their approach to Syria and Iran. The president did not stop in Israel on his three-country tour. It was left to Mr Trump's Secretary of State Marco Rubio to reassure Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a call that the US still has a "deep commitment" to their relationship. While in Riyadh, Mr Trump encouraged Saudi Arabia to establish ties with Israel under the Abraham Accords.

Israel attacks Yemeni ports, Houth-run television says

ADEN, May 16 (Reuters) - Israel attacked Yemen's ports of Hodeidah and Salif along the country's Red Sea coast on Friday, the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV said, in an apparent response to the militant group's missile launches against Israel. Al Masirah did not provide further details, but two residents in Hodeidah said they heard four loud booms. There was no immediate comment on the attack from Israel. The Houthis have continued to fire missiles at Israel in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, although they have agreed to halt attacks on U.S. ships. The Israeli military, which has carried out numerous retaliatory strikes on Houthi targets, intercepted a missile launched by the group on Thursday. Earlier this week, Israel issued evacuation orders for the ports of Ras Isa, Hodeidah and Salif, saying they were being used by the Iranian-aligned Houthis.
