Boston Celtics' Jaden Springer created massive savings
Despite some strong showings in recent weeks, the Boston Celtics parted with Jaden Springer on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The defensive-minded guard was shipped to the Houston Rockets along with a future second round pick and a second round pick exchange. The move has shaved approximately $15 million off the Celtics luxury tax bill. Springer is expected to be waived by Houston.
In making the trade, the Celtics opened up an additional roster spot, which they have since filled with their Feb. 6 addition of veteran wing Torrey Craig. Boston also created a $4 million traded player exception (TPE); however, as a second apron team, a TPE cannot be taken into a new season, and as such, that exception is unlikely to be utilized.
In a recent episode of the 'How 'Bout Them Celtics' podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance shared their reaction to the Celtics' one and only move ahead of the trade deadline.
