2 held in Hwh for thrashing civic volunteer
Kolkata: Two people were arrested after they allegedly assaulted a civic volunteer in Howrah. Howrah District Rural Police made the arrests after a video of the incident went viral. Moidul Islam Layek and Moshiar Rahman Mallik have been accused of slapping the civic volunteer, tying a rope around his waist and legs and making him squat while holding his ears in the Basantpur Bazaar area of Amta Pero police station last Wednesday. The incident sparked a political controversy with BJP claiming that the accused were Trinamool workers. However, Udaynarayanpur MLA Samir Panja denied the allegation, saying that locals had beaten up the volunteer for allegedly speaking ill of CM Mamata Banerjee.
