Huhtamaki Egypt to invest in sustainable packaging plant in Sadat City
Egypt - Huhtamaki Egypt has secured the prestigious Golden License from the Egyptian Cabinet to establish a state-of-the-art molded fiber packaging facility in Sadat City, located within the CPC Industrial Zone of Menofeya. With a total investment of EGP 1.47bn, the project represents one of the Finnish packaging leader's most significant commitments in the region. Spanning approximately 22,000 square meters, the facility will be developed using recycled wastepaper and equipped with advanced molded fiber technology to produce eco-friendly packaging solutions such as egg cartons, fruit trays, and cup carriers. The plant is expected to begin operations in August 2026 and will create over 61 direct jobs, serving both domestic and international markets. This project marks a major milestone in the long-term strategic partnership between Huhtamaki Oyj and Ayman Korra, a key div in the project's structure and CEO of Korra for Energy & Investment Projects—one of Egypt's leading industrial firms. 'The awarding of the Golden License to this Huhtamaki initiative reflects the state's strong support for committed investors,' said Ayman Korra. 'It also affirms Korra's strategy of attracting global investment and localizing advanced technologies within the Egyptian market.' The Golden License, introduced by the Egyptian government to fast-track projects of national importance, provides a comprehensive approval framework for establishment, construction, operation, and licensing. It also offers a range of administrative and investment incentives to streamline project execution. Huhtamaki Egypt is now among fewer than 50 projects to have been granted the Golden License since the programme's inception in 2017—out of more than 300 applicants. This distinction underscores the strategic importance and transformative potential of the project. As Egypt strengthens its position as an investment hub, this development highlights the power of aligning global innovation with local vision—reinforcing Huhtamaki's role as a regional leader in sustainable packaging and supporting the broader national agenda for green industrial growth. © 2024 Daily News Egypt. Cairo – In a bold step that underscores growing investor confidence in Egypt's business climate, Huhtamaki Egypt has been granted the prestigious Golden License by the Egyptian Cabinet to build its new Molded Fiber packaging Plant using recycled wastepaper in Sadat City, located in the CPC Industrial Zone of Monufia Governorate. The project will be developed with a total investment of EGP 1.47 billion, marking one of the Finnish packaging giant's largest investments in the region. Spanning approximately 22,000 square meters, the facility represents a significant milestone in the longstanding strategic partnership between Huhtamaki Oyj and Eng. Ayman Korra, who plays an integral role in the project's corporate structure and serves as CEO of Korra for Energy & Investment Projects, one of Egypt's most prominent industrial entities. Set to commence operations in August 2026, the new facility will create over 61 direct jobs and incorporate state-of-the-art molded fiber technology to produce sustainable, eco-friendly packaging solutions such as egg cartons, fruit trays, and cup carriers made from recycled paper fibers, targeting both local and international markets. Huhtamaki purchases moulded fibre packaging company Zellwin Farms
Sustainable packaging solutions provider Huhtamaki has acquired Zellwin Farms, a producer of moulded fibre packaging in Florida, US. According to a Huhtamaki press release, the deal is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its footprint in fibre-based egg packaging solutions. The agreed enterprise value for the acquisition is $18m. Huhtamaki North America president Ann O'Hara said: 'This acquisition is attractive for us as legislation in North America continues to shift packaging choices in the egg industry toward more renewable and recyclable options, such as moulded fibre. 'This acquisition will support our aspiration to be a leader in this category, deliver installed capacity to strengthen our manufacturing footprint, and help grow our excellent customer relationships.' Zellwin Farms is known for producing egg cartons and trays using recycled paper materials collected from the local area. The company caters to clients in the Southeastern region of the US from its sole manufacturing site and has served the packaging needs of egg producers for more than 20 years. Its yearly revenue stands at approximately $20m, according to the press release. The acquisition will expand Huhtamaki's production capability and technical resources in the moulded fibre space. Huhtamaki president and CEO Ralf Wunderlich said: 'We have a clear focus on accelerating profitable growth through all levers. Inorganic growth is an important tool for us, and we aim to do it in a disciplined manner in markets and geographies in which we are confident that we can create shareholder value." Huhtamaki offers sustainable packaging solutions worldwide with 18,000 employees operating in 36 countries and 102 locations. Huhtamaki launches recyclable single coated paper cups for yogurt and dairy
Huhtamaki_ProDairy product innovation launch_main image Huhtamaki_ProDairy product innovation launch_additional image HUHTAMÄKI OYJ PRESS RELEASE 28.02.2025 AT 10:00EET Huhtamaki launches recyclable single coated paper cups for yogurt and dairy Innovative packaging solution 'ProDairy' reduces plastic content to below 10% while maintaining high performance standards. Huhtamaki, a global leader in sustainable food packaging solutions, is proud to announce the development of the recyclable single coated paper cups ProDairy, specifically designed for yogurt and dairy products. Yogurt is a product with high food safety requirements. This highly functional and innovative packaging solution meets all the requirements and delivers a lower polymer content than traditional alternative products. With less than 10% plastic content across its full product range, it is fully recyclable in Europe. "Dairy products are an important part of our daily life and creating recyclable packaging for something as important as your morning yogurt has been a challenge, especially while maintaining the high-performance standards required for dairy products. I am proud of our team and excited that we can now offer this solution to our customers at scale. Our solution is highly functional in terms of product performance and barrier properties, and it is a cost-efficient solution which meets customer and consumer expectations regarding our innovation in food packaging. These recyclable single coated paper cups help our customers address consumer demands for reduced plastic in packaging", says Fredrik Davidsson, President of Fiber Foodservice Europe-Asia-Oceania at Huhtamaki. One of the significant challenges in reducing polymer content in dairy packaging is ensuring a perfect seal and lid fit to the flat rim. Huhtamaki has effectively addressed this challenge by developing a unique rim design and rim forming process, ensuring excellent top rim sealing. Strong side seam sealing is also essential for high quality cup performance, and ProDairy benefits from a unique and proprietary sealing varnish technology developed at Huhtamaki. The new product has been stringently and comprehensively tested. "Our team has identified a varnish to replace the outer polyethylene layer which maintains a paper-like feel with a matt finish and provides a high moisture barrier for products stored in chilled conditions. This is important for manufacturers, retailers and consumers, ensuring that our unique product delivers the functional performance of traditional paper cups with a lower plastic content, while still being fully recyclable', Fredrik Davidsson says. ProDairy is manufactured in Europe using paperboard made with renewable wood fibers sourced from sustainably managed forests. The new product is ready for deployment with customers.
