Arsenal star taken aback by team-mate's 'zero f**** given' act before £50m move
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has lifted the lid on how an audacious move by one of his team-mates left him surprised before they sealed a big money transfer move abroad Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has backed his Spain team-mate Dean Huijsen to be a big success at Real Madrid. The defender's departure from Bournemouth was confirmed last month after the La Liga side met his £50million release clause. Huijsen joined the Cherries from Juventus last summer and quickly made his name as one of the Premier League 's best defenders. The 20-year-old attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal as the season drew to a close. However, he ultimately chose to join Los Blancos on a five-year deal and could make his debut during this summer's Club World Cup tournament. Huijsen earned his first cap for the Spanish national team in a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in March. One moment in particular caught Raya's eye from the bench during that game as the centre-back attempted an audacious long-range effort at goal. And the Gunners' shot-stopper told former Manchester United and Wrexham keeper Ben Foster that Huijsen's confidence is a good sign that he will succeed in Madrid. Speaking on the Fozcast podcast, Raya said: "He's good to go. You know why? Can I swear here? He has zero f***s given. That's how you interpret him, in a good way. He made his debut for Spain back in March and what 19-year-old centre-back has a shot from 30 yards out on his weak foot? "I swear, he just had a shot from 30 yards out on his left foot on his debut. I don't know how young players do this stuff so naturally nowadays. When I was 17 or 18 and training with the first team, you were so quiet and not doing anything." Huijsen recently revealed that he initially planned to spend two years at Bournemouth but things moved "very quickly". He also opened up about how he wants to emulate the career of Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. He told AS: "I may be [the happiest man in the world ], really, although my father is probably even happier. My plan was to spend two years at Bournemouth, grow, and then figure out what to do next. But things have moved very quickly, faster than I expected. "I try and aspire to be like Sergio Ramos, he's my idol. For me, he's very complete, he had everything. In terms of leadership, goalscoring, personality, character." Huijsen said he's already spoken to Real's new coach Xabi Alonso, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti after Los Blancos finished their season without a major trophy. "We've talked a bit about the team and what he has in mind, and about the project," he said. "Of course, we want to win things again, and I'm sure we will... I don't think it's sunk in yet. But I'm here at Madrid, and I'll try to do my best." He added: "I want to play with the best. [Kylian] Mbappé, Vinícius [Júnior], Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham, all those in attack - they're some of the best there is." Real Madrid transfer target responds to Dean Huijsen's ‘going home' post
A member of the summer transfer shortlist at La Liga giants Real Madrid has this week dropped something of a hint regarding his interest in a move to the Spanish capital. This comes by way of a response to a social media post on the part of recent Blancos signing Dean Huijsen. Advertisement Defender Huijsen was of course recently announced as the first addition to Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid squad for the 2024/25 campaign. The 20-year-old was brought in in a big-money transfer from Bournemouth earlier this month. Huijsen, in turn, this week took to his official Instagram account, to unveil a photo of himself donning a Real Madrid kit as a child. The post also featured the caption 'We're going home'. And as alluded to above, since providing his response to as much was another member of the transfer wishlist at the Santiago Bernabéu this summer. ‘He's ready' – New Real Madrid signing Huijsen earns praise from Arsenal star
Newly-signed Real Madrid starlet Dean Huijsen has this week come in for some well-earned praise on the part of Arsenal star David Raya. This comes as the pair prepare to reunite with the latest Spanish national team squad. Advertisement Defender Huijsen is of course fresh off sealing a big-money move back to his home country. This comes after a spectacular debut season in the colours of Bournemouth in the Premier League culminated in Real Madrid splashing out on the 20-year-old's signature. Huijsen's tender years have seen some question whether the jump to the continent's biggest club may be a step too far, too soon for Huijsen. One individual, though, in no two minds when it comes to the stopper's readiness to make the necessary leap in performance is the aforementioned David Raya. Speaking during an appearance on Ben Foster's podcast 'Fozcast' this week, Arsenal shot-stopper Raya was drawn on the talents of his fellow countryman. And the shot-stopper was not shy in revealing his opinion that: 'He's top. He's ready, you know why? He has zero f**ks given. In a good way.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Ian Wright disappointed Arsenal missed out on signing £50m star this summer
Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he would have 'loved' to have seen the club sign Dean Huijsen this summer. Huijsen, 20, enjoyed an exceptional debut season in the Premier League with Bournemouth, establishing himself as one of the most promising young centre-backs in European football. The Gunners had been keeping close tabs on Huijsen's progress on the south coast, along with Manchester United and Chelsea, with all three teams on the hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of the transfer window. But La Liga giants Real Madrid moved quickly to agree personal terms with Huijsen before triggering the Spaniard's £50million release clause at the Vitality Stadium. Huijsen has committed his future to Madrid until 2030 and becomes the first signing of Xabi Alonso's reign at the Bernabeu. While Arsenal already boast arguably finest centre-back partnership in the league in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, club legend Wright believes Huijsen would have been an excellent addition at the Emirates. Discussing Arsenal's priorities for the summer, Wright told the Seaman Says podcast: 'I'd probably have a back-up centre-back. 'I would have loved us to buy Huijsen off Bournemouth, but he's gone to Real Madrid. 'They [Madrid] saw it and they just come in and go, 'Bang!', but we just need a couple more. 'We need a bit of luck with the injuries and the referees, PGMOL, we need some accountability for them. But at the end of the day, that's out of your control. 'I just think we're so close and second place is part of the journey as a fan, as frustrating as it is. Hopefully, when you do finally get over the line, you look back at this and it doesn't matter so much.' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In addition to a new defender, Wright believes Arsenal need to strengthen their attack with a 'main striker and another forward' if they are to start winning trophies again. Asked if the Gunners had progressed this season, Wright replied: 'You have to see it as a progression because second again, it's close. It's a mental thing now. 'What they showed towards the end of the season, they're mentally very strong because it's important that we finished second, especially with the way Manchester City were coming, and get something out of the season. 'Mentality-wise, I think it's very strong and I think it's going to be vital who he adds to that group. 'Apparently [Martin] Zubimendi is there, there's talk about [Viktor] Gyokeres, whether's it is Sesko… I don't know who it's going to be. But I believe that we need a main striker and another forward.' Wright is adamant Arsenal had a better season than Tottenham, despite Spurs ending their 17-year wait for silverware with victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final. Asked which club had enjoyed the better campaign, Wright replied: 'We have. We started the season trying to win the league and we've finished second. 'Spurs didn't start the season wanting to finish 17th, stink the place out, win the Europa League, lose 22 matches in the Premier League. 'If Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester were fractionally better, Manchester United and Tottenham are in a relegation fight for half of that season. It's just that they were so poor.'
