"Everyone else is talking about Wembley, not me and the team'
WEMBLEY talk is not on the lips of Sam Burgess, his Warrington Wolves coaching staff and players. Although the Challenge Cup Final clash with Hull Kingston Rovers at the iconic national stadium is looming large, The Wire head coach says all focus is on delivering a much-needed performance against Castleford Tigers in Super League on Friday night. On the back of three successive defeats, Burgess' boys have slid four points adrift of the play-offs places and need the points. 'Everyone else is talking about Wembley, not me and the team,' he said. 'Willie Peters (Hull KR coach) will be in the same boat, everyone will be talking to him about Wembley. 'I understand it's what everyone's talking about, which is fair enough. We all accept it, you can't hide from it, but my job as a coach is to get the players ready to go this week and give a great performance.' With his side now 12 points behind leaders Hull KR and 10 adrift of Wigan Warriors, what does he believe is still achievable in Super League this season? 'I've got my idea about that but we've got a bit in front of us for now,' said Burgess. 'Right now, it's important for us to focus on this week because we all know what's coming next week and you can't get distracted about that. 'Next week will take care of itself. After Wembley, we'll start having a look at a couple of things but for now it's about getting our performance right this week.'

What Sam Burgess said after George Williams trained today
WARRINGTON Wolves skipper George Williams trained today. He is ahead of schedule with his recovery from surgery and his eyes remain firmly fixed on pulling on the Wire shirt in the Challenge Cup Final against Hull Kingston Rovers at Wembley on Saturday, June 7. These remain early days and Williams still has work to do to be available for selection, but the signs are positive that Warrington's most lethal weapon could give his side a massive boost and be on the field for the showpiece decider. Head coach Sam Burgess has commended the England star's drive in his bid to win his fitness race. Williams has missed the last six matches following surgery for ruptured ankle ligaments but in early May he made it known that he was setting the cup final as his return date, should The Wire overcome Leigh Leopards in the semi-finals – which they did. 'He's really pushed the boundaries on his programme and he's ahead of schedule,' said Burgess. 'It's a 10-week injury, and the Wembley game would be about seven-and-a-half weeks. 'Regardless of whether he plays or not next week, he's done a great job in pushing the boundaries on his own performance and his own ability to recover. 'Also the medical staff have seen that the goal posts can be shifted at times. Where there's a will there's a way. 'There is a bit of time between now and then. He's got to get the practise done. He's trained today and he looked to be moving ok so we'll see how he goes. 'George made a commitment that he won't leave a stone unturned and he's not. 'He's really attacked his rehab and the club have been very good. 'He's got a good relationship with Nick Murphy (head physio) and Ade Gardner (head of performance), so they've thought outside the box and they've gone far and wide to push him as hard as they can without making him break down. 'So he'll come back in some good shape hopefully.' More: Trio set to return for Wire's Cas clash, but two to miss out When Williams spoke about his injury and surgery on Sky Sports' The Bench podcast in early May, he revealed he is following a programme aimed at shaving time off his recovery – one that has never been successfully completed by a rugby league player. 'Eight to 10 weeks is what they normally say but we're following a programme that Leinster rugby union have used that gets players back in seven,' he said. 'That's the goal for me – I've had two weeks off already after surgery and it's five weeks until Wembley if we get there. 'That would be seven weeks and two days – it's been done before but I think only two players have managed that, and they're both rugby union players. 'I think the posh word for it is 'syndesmosis' and it's basically ruptured ankle ligaments. 'I did a Grade Two – which isn't a full rupture but a tear – in Round One last year, so it was basically a ticking time bomb for me. 'If you've already got little tears in there then the same movement will eventually snap it, which is what happened to me.'

Adam Reynolds in sad family development as Ben Hunt makes $2.2m move with wife
Adam Reynolds is facing the prospect of having to relocate his family yet again after it was revealed over the weekend that he'll likely have to leave Brisbane if he wants to continue his NRL career. The Broncos have been under the impression that Reynolds would retire at the end of the 2025 season and then move into a coaching role at the club. Michael Maguire's side is facing a salary cap squeeze and need to find the funds to keep Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo and a number of others. The Broncos had planned for Reynolds' $550,000 contract to come off the books in 2026 and free up some space to re-sign others. But the 34-year-old's stellar start to the season has made him reconsider his retirement plans, and the veteran halfback is said to be leaning towards playing on next year. But with the Broncos short on cash due to big contracts handed to Reece Walsh, Payne Haas, Patrick Carrigan and Ezra Mam, it could mean Reynolds has to find a new team. reported over the weekend that Hull Kingston Rovers are interested in bringing Reynolds to England, and he doesn't have much desire to return to Sydney after previously playing for the Rabbitohs. It would mean relocating his young family and leaving Brisbane after they'd fallen in love with their new home since their switch from Sydney in 2022. "We wanted a lifestyle change," Reynolds told the in February about moving wife Tallara and their four kids - aged 15, 14, 10 and 7 - to Brisbane. "We wanted a big house with a big yard for the kids and the dogs, somewhere they could run around. "To be honest, it was tough at first to leave all we had known, all our Sydney friends and family, and the kids were a bit nervous about leaving old friends at school, not knowing anyone. But from the moment we announced we were coming up, everyone just took us in. "It's been a great move, we have felt very welcomed here, the people we've met and the relationships we've made, and the kids absolutely love it here. They don't want to go back to Sydney. They call Brisbane home now and so do we. We feel very happy with the call we made." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Adam Reynolds (@rendiggiti7) Speaking on Triple M radio on Sunday, Reynolds flagged that he's keen to continue his career. 'The plan is to play on,'' he said. 'I will keep all options open at the moment. You never know what is around the corner. Ideally I would love to stay at the Broncos but it is pretty tight there at the moment. If things work out, great. If not you would have to look and explore and see what else was out there." If Reynolds was to leave, they would have Hunt and Mam in the halves for 2026. Tellingly, Hunt has severed his final ties to Sydney by listing his home in Caringbah South with wife Bridget. The Hunt family lived in the Sutherland region while he played for the Dragons, but they've since relocated to Brisbane and are seeking $2.2 million for their house in Sydney. It shows Hunt doesn't have any plans to return to Sydney in the near future, which may indicate he's keen to play on with the Broncos past 2026 as well.

2025 Super League prediction, best bets & odds: Wigan Warriors good value for three-peat
The Super League returns on Thursday when Wigan Warriors take on Leigh Leopards at the Brick Community Stadium looking to continue their recent dominance of the competition. Wigan went five years without a title before clinching the top prize in 2023. They went on to achieve back-to-back titles in a remarkable season for the Cherry and Whites, and betting sites have priced them up as favourites for more glory in 2025. Hull Kingston Rovers were beaten by Wigan 9-2 in the Grand Final in October, and they will be looking to go one better this year, while Warrington Wolves, who finished just four points behind Wigan, will hope that experience will help them this time around. There have been plenty of comings and goings ahead of the 30th Super League season so it will be interesting to see who has the biggest impact this time around. 2025 Super League season predictions Head coach Matt Peet led Wigan to a clean sweep of all four major trophies in 2024 as they claimed the World Club Challenge, the Challenge Cup, the League Leaders' Shield and the Grand Final. Repeating that feat is going to be tough but rugby betting sites have them as favourites to retain the League Leaders' Shield at 11/8. St Helens, who finished sixth last season are second favourites at 4/1 and you can get 9/2 on Warrington Wolves and 11/2 on last season's Grand Final runners-up Hull Kingston Rovers. The installation of 2023 champions St Helens as second favourites has surprised many, but last season could have looked very different if they'd not struggled so much with injuries, especially in their forward pack. Bookmakers clearly believe a fully fit squad, plus the additions of Tristan Sailor (Brisbane Broncos) and wing duo Kyle Feldt (North Queensland Cowboys) and Lewis Murphy (Sydney Roosters) will mean Saints can push Wigan all the way. Betfred 2025 Super League Grand Final winner prediction It's hard to see beyond Wigan again for the Grand Final. As St Helens found, the key to success is keeping everyone fit, but with Jai Field and Bevan French in their side, it will be hard for anyone to get the better of them. The Warriors have won the Grand Final seven times and have been beaten in six other finals since 2000. Another win would put them just one behind St Helens who currently lead the all-time standings with nine titles. 2025 Super League Man of Steel prediction Hull KR and England half-back Mikey Lewis was named the 2024 Man of Steel after an excellent season, culminating in the Robins reaching their first Super League Grand Final. He benefitted largely from injury to Wigan star Bevan French who won the award the previous year and is the bookmaker's favourite to win it again in 2025, at 7/1. The Australian was named man of the match in the 2024 World Club Challenge win over Penrith Panthers. He scored a try in the 2024 Challenge Cup final and was awarded the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match. He also picked up the Rob Burrow Man of the Match Award in the Grand Final after scoring the only try of the game. If French can stay fit this season, then we expect him to be crowned Man Of Steel for a second time in October. 2025 Super League prediction 3: Bevan French to be named Man of Steel - 7/1 Betfred 2025 Super League top try scorer predictions It's no surprise that betting apps are backing a Wigan player to be the leading try scorer as well, with last year's winner Liam Marshall 7/1 to top the charts again. He averaged just over a try a game last season and finished with 27 to his name, ahead of Warrington Wolves winger Matty Ashton who scored 21. With Warrington looking stronger this season, we're backing the 26-year-old to finish as leading try scorer at the end of the season. You can get 8/1 on Ashton or 16/1 on Mikey Lewis, who finished third last season with 19 tries. Please gamble responsibly When having a bet, it's vital to practice responsible gambling.
