Liverpool's Arne Slot handed two-match touchline ban after Merseyside derby red card
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban following his post-game red card after the Merseyside derby. The Football Association (FA) brought charges against Liverpool, Everton, the Liverpool head coach and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff after the final derby at Goodison Park ended in acrimonious circumstances after James Tarkowski's 98th-minute equaliser for the home side to earn a 2-2 draw. Advertisement Slot and his assistant Hulshoff, alongside Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool's Curtis Jones were all shown red cards after the full-time whistle. Doucoure celebrated in front of the Liverpool away section and Jones pushed the Everton player away, sparking a melee involving multiple players from both teams. Both clubs were charged with failing 'to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.' The FA also brought charges against Slot and Hulshoff for 'acting in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour' towards match officials after the match had finished. Hulshoff also faced the same allegation for an incident after receiving his red card. Slot later said that 'emotions got the better of me' in the aftermath of the game. He will now miss the games with Newcastle United and Southampton as will Hulshoff, who was also handed the same suspension. Both men were informed of their punishment on Tuesday evening with John Heitinga to take charge of the first team in Slot's place. Slot was also fined £70,000 and Hilshoff £7,000. Both Everton (£65,000) and Liverpool (£50,000) were also fined following a hearing. An FA statement on Wednesday read: 'An independent regulatory commission has sanctioned Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot and Sipke Hulshoff in relation to the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Wednesday 12 February. 'It was alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle. Everton and Liverpool admitted the charges, and the regulatory commission imposed £65,000 and £50,000 fines on them respectively following a hearing. Advertisement 'It was alleged that the Liverpool head coach acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished. Arne Slot admitted the charge, and the regulatory commission imposed a two-match touchline suspension and £70,000 fine. 'It was alleged that the Liverpool assistant head coach acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which led to his dismissal. It was further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off. Sipke Hulshoff admitted the charge, and the regulatory commission imposed a two-match touchline suspension and £7,000 fine. 'The regulatory commission's written reasons for these sanctions will be published in due course.' Slot will be eligible to return for the return game with Everton at Anfield on April 2. He will also be on the touchline for both legs of the Champions League last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot given two-match touchline ban following derby dismissal
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff have both been handed two-match touchline bans after being sent off in the angry aftermath of the 2-2 draw at Everton earlier this month. James Tarkowski's equaliser deep into stoppage time at the end of the last Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park provoked chaotic scenes, with both Slot and Hulshoff sent off by Michael Oliver along with Liverpool's Curtis Jones and Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. An independent regulatory commission has now given Slot and Hulshoff touchline bans after they admitted charges of using an improper manner and/or using insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards the match officials, with Slot to pay a fine of £70,000 and Hulshoff £7,000. The Football Association also announced Everton have been fined £65,000 and Liverpool £50,000 for failing to ensure their players and/or staff did not behave in an improper way. Slot and Hulshoff were both dismissed after approaching Oliver after the final whistle. Speaking about the incident at a press conference two days later, Slot admitted his emotions had got the better of him and he had 'made the wrong decision'. 'I should have acted differently after the game, but it's an emotional sport and sometimes individuals make wrong decisions and that's definitely what I did,' the Dutchman said. Jones and Doucoure clashed after the Everton player celebrated in front of the Liverpool fans, leading Jones to confront him before players and staff from both sides raced over. Slot will miss Wednesday's home game against Newcastle and the visit of Southampton on March 8 but can be on the touchline for next week's Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Paris St Germain.

Arne Slot, Liverpool accept FA charges following Merseyside derby
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is facing a touchline ban after accepting a Football Association (FA) charge following his Merseyside derby red card. The club and Slot's assistant Sipke Hulshoff also accepted separate charges prior to Wednesday's deadline. An independent regulatory commission will now be set up to decide on suitable punishments. Advertisement After the Premier League fixture with Everton on February 12 finished in a 2-2 draw, Slot and Hulshoff received red cards for their complaints to referee Michael Oliver. The FA charged Slot and Hulshoff two days later for having 'acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour' towards match officials. Everton and Liverpool were both charged by the FA for allegedly failing 'to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle.' The Liverpool head coach has remained on the touchline for his side's last two Premier League fixtures, overseeing the 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers and a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Slot has already served a one-game touchline ban this season after accumulating three yellow cards, watching his side's 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup in December from the stands. FA guidelines state that recent disciplinary actions can be taken into account when deciding punishment, meaning that Slot's previous ban could count against him. Since replacing Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool head coach in the summer, Slot has guided his team to 18 wins in 26 Premier League matches, losing just once. Liverpool are top of the Premier League with a eight-point lead over second-place Arsenal and are through to the Carabao Cup final after beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 on aggregate. The Merseyside derby, the final one to be staged at Goodison Park, ended in dramatic fashion, with Everton captain James Tarkowski scoring an equaliser in the eighth minute of additional time that was eventually confirmed after a lengthy VAR review. Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure ran over to celebrate in front of the Liverpool fans after full-time, which drew an angry reaction from Liverpool's Curtis Jones, who confronted Dourcoure. This sparked an altercation with several players on both sides involved, with Doucoure and Jones both being sent off after second yellow cards. GO DEEPER Liverpool were furious at the end but the events at Everton should not disrupt their season ()

Is Arne Slot in charge of Liverpool vs Aston Villa? FA deadline passes amid touchline ban update
Arne Slot is set to be on the touchline again on Wednesday as Liverpool continues its charge for the Premier League title at Aston Villa. The Reds head to Villa Park as they begin another crucial week in their quest to be crowned champions. They sit seven points ahead of Arsenal ahead of kickoff and will have the chance to go 10 points clear and pile more pressure on Mikel Arteta and his men. To help matters, it looks as though Slot will once again be able to lead his side from the touchline, despite still having a charge from The FA hanging over his head. The Liverpool boss was shown a red card after confronting referee Michael Oliver following a dramatic end to proceedings in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park last week. READ MORE: Man City vs Liverpool referee confirmed as Arne Slot touchline ban decision explained READ MORE: 4 things spotted in Liverpool training as Dominik Szoboszlai sends Jamie Carragher message Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure were also sent off after clashing with each other, as was Slot's assistant Sipke Hulshoff. But while Jones has now served his one-match suspension and is back available for Wednesday's game, Slot and Hulshoff are still waiting to hear whether they will face further punishments. The pair, along with both Liverpool and Everton, were charged by the FA last week. A statement from the FA said: "The Liverpool manager allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished." The deadline for Slot, Hulshoff and Liverpool to respond to the charges is Wednesday, meaning any possible punishments could be handed down this week. It is unlikely any decision will be made before kickoff at Villa Park though, meaning Slot and Hulshoff should be able to take their usual places in the dugout. What's more, if the process continues into the weekend, it's possible that Slot could also be on the touchline for Sunday's trip to Manchester City. Having already served a one-game ban this season for accumulating three yellow cards, there is a chance that, if the Dutchman is punished, he could miss multiple games during Liverpool's title race. Reflecting on his red card at Everton, Slot told Sky Sports: 'I ask all my players to be calm in their head, and I think they were that constantly. I couldn't have asked more from them because it was a very difficult game for them to play as well. 'But they handled that really well, and if I could do this one more time, of course it's not smart because I didn't help anyone with that. But like I said, emotions took over after these seven or eight minutes - those seven or eight minutes will never be the same again in terms of all the games I'm going to play as a manager. 'But still, if it happens next time, I should act differently, that's completely clear. If I could do it one more time, I just had to go in and calm down and maybe talk to the referee afterwards, but it's easier said than done.'
