Annual 5K Furry Skurry to benefit local pets in Miami Valley

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Humane Society of Greater Dayton's annual 5K Furry Skurry is returning Saturday, May 17. The event, which raises money to help local pets in the Miami Valley, will run from 8 a.m. to noon at St. Leonard in Centerville. The 5K walk/run will start at 8:30 a.m. The top finishers will win a $100 Runner's Plus gift card. LIST: Public invited to forums during NATO Assembly The event is more than just the race. There will be multiple fun and unique things to do at the event. Food Truck Frenzy: Enjoy a selection of local food trucks. 'Flea(less)' Market Shopping: Enjoy supporting local vendors. Free Pet Microchips: There is no registration required for this life-saving pet service. Frisbee Disc Stunt and Trick Show: The Performance Dogs of Ohio will be showing their spectacular skills. Interactive Farm Zone: The Learning Tree Farm will have a petting zoo present. Painted 'Pawjects' with Barstools and Brushstrokes: Your pet can enjoy making an art piece. Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden: A place to honor pets who have died. The VIPP (Very Important People & Pets) Tent: An omelet station, an all-day open bar and a 'sWag' bag. Other notable things at the event will include a pet costume contest, pet CPR classes, Dog Bone Bar, adoptable animals, massages and a 50/50 Raffle. To register for the race, click here. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Humane Society of Greater Dayton has reached full capacity. To try and clear its spaces, the organization is offering $100 off of dog adoption fees, as well as a free toy for all adopted dogs. Brian Weltge, president & CEO of HGSD, said although the shelter is full, that doesn't stop the organization's mission of providing the animal with 'a chance at a happy, healthy life.' 'This Easter, we hope families in our community will consider opening their hearts and homes to a dog in need,' Weltge said. 'There's no better time to welcome a new best friend.' Humane Society to host puppy and kitten shower event

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Humane Society of Greater Dayton will have a puppy and kitten shower/open house soon. The public event will teach people how they can make a life-saving pawstive difference in the life of an animal by fostering. It will run Saturday, April 5, from noon to 4 p.m. There will be workshops for both beginners and pros on fostering, hands-on demonstrations, games, a raffle and a $5 kitten naming opportunity. No registration is necessary to attend and guests can join the event at any time. Guests at the workshops will learn more about caring for newborn puppies and kittens. DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Humane Society of Greater Dayton to host its 34th annual Furry Skurry 5K on Saturday, May 17. Themed around superheroes, the shelter is encouraging people to unleash their inner hero and help save pets' lives. The event will be held at St. Leonard in Centerville. It will feature a pet costume contest, animal demonstrations and goodies. 'Events like the Furry Skurry 5K are vital for our organization,' said Brian Weltge, President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. 'This event and the funds raised through it go directly to supporting the care and shelter of thousands of animals right here in our community.' The last day to register for early bird race pricing is Sunday, March 16. Racing or not, there's something for everyone at the event – food trucks, pet microchipping, live entertainment and even free massages. Looking for even more to do?
