Dr. Briana Sosenheimer honored with national Voice Award
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Centenary assistant professor of music Dr. Briana Sosenheimer has received an award for her dedication to teaching. Click here for more education news The National Association of Teachers of Singing recognized Dr. Sosenheimer for 'her dedication to teaching and the study of voice pedagogy and science' with the 2025 Voice Pedagogy Award. Dr. Sosenheimer is Director of Opera Centenary and the Coordinator of the Voice Area at the Hurley School of Music. Dr. Sosenheimer is a respected vocal teacher, stage director, and vocalist. She has performed internationally, including roles in Le nozze di Figaro, La Bohéme, Werther, and Carmen. Dr. Sosenheimer has also directed or assistant directed over 30 different productions with several different opera organizations. She also does outreach work, performing and composing operas for children. Dr. Cory Wikan, Dean of the Hurley School of Music, says, 'Dr. Sosenheimer is an exceptionally talented vocal pedagogue, stage director, and vocalist and is wholly deserving of this national honor.' The award comes with $500, which Dr. Sosenheimer plans to use to learn more about the science of voice by attending the Summer Vocology Institute at the University of Utah this summer. Enjoy the magical sounds of the Centenary Flute Ensemble's free concert
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Centenary Flute Ensemble will present a free concert open to the public. According to a press release, the flute choir is an ensemble of flutists who play different sizes of flutes, giving out a homogenous, wonderful, rich sound. The flute family ranges from the small, high-pitched piccolo to the low, rich-sounding contrabass flute. LSU-Shreveport art exhibit celebrates female artists, nature The release added that the Centenary Flute Ensemble includes many accomplished flutists from the community and uses the piccolo, ten regular-sized flutes, two alto flutes, and a bass flute. Within the ensemble are Centenary graduate George Hancock ('88), current student Feliz Kraus, biology professor and alumnae Dr. Rebecca Murphy ('06), and Hurley School of Music flute instructor Sally Horak, who is also the director of the ensemble. 'The flute ensemble is a magical sonic treat that is prized by composers and both a joy to see and hear in its variety and blended sonority,' said Horak. The concert will range from classics by Mozart and Verdi to Cuban inspired dance music and the magical 'Of Wizards and Witches,' according to the release. It is free to the public and will be held on Sunday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Auditorium at Centenary College's Hurley School of Music. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
