Pat McAfee identifies himself as the 'somebody' who 'embarrassed' John Mellencamp at Pacers-Knicks game
ESPN personality Pat McAfee, left, appears to have annoyed singer John Mellencamp with his antics at the New York Knicks-Indiana Pacers game Tuesday in Indianapolis. (Sean Gardner; Timothy Norris / Getty Images) Legendary rocker and Indiana native John Mellencamp apologized Thursday "on behalf of most Hoosiers" for the "poor, poor sportsmanship" displayed during the Pacers' home win over the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals two days earlier. Although the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer. did not call out any specific Indiana sports fan in the statement he posted to X hours before Game 5, Mellencamp seemed to have a particular person in mind — popular ESPN personality Pat McAfee. Advertisement "I was embarrassed when somebody, under whose direction I don't know, called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team — and in turn, support our team," the "Hurts So Good" singer wrote. "The audience booed these people. I'd say that was not Hoosier Hospitality. One could only say it's poor, poor sportsmanship." "I am 'somebody,'" McAfee wrote. Advertisement Mellencamp and McAfee were both on hand Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Pacers defeated the Knicks 130-121 to take a 3-1 series lead. Addressing the crowd during a fourth-quarter timeout, McAfee called out celebrity Knicks fans Spike Lee, Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet — all of whom were in attendance that night — and encouraged Pacers fans to "send these sons of b— back to New York with their ears ringing!" Stiller addressed the matter later that night on X, saying he assumed that McAfee was "playing around" and that all the fans he met at the arena were "awesome and incredibly cool." Mellencamp, however, was not happy with the shenanigans. Read more: Pat McAfee says ESPN didn't tell him to stop talking about Caitlin Clark. 'God' did Advertisement "I was not proud to be a Hoosier, and I've lived here my entire life," the singer once known as Johnny Cougar wrote. "On behalf of most Hoosiers, I would like to apologize for our poor behavior. I'm sure the Pacers had nothing to do with this smackdown." Mellencamp's use of the "smackdown" appears to be a thinly veiled reference to McAfee, who is a color commentator and occasional wrestler for WWE. "Friday Night SmackDown" is one of the organization's signature TV shows. It is unclear why Mellencamp opted to voice his displeasure so long after the incident occurred. Perhaps he plans to be in attendance Thursday night at Madison Square Garden as his Pacers attempt to seal their first trip to the NBA Finals since 2000. One person who won't be there is McAfee, despite a friendly invite from Stiller. Tony Gollan may rethink winter carnival plans for Tenzing after ‘career PB' win in Brisbane Mile
Brisbane's top trainer Tony Gollan has hailed Tenzing 's victory in the $300,000 Brisbane Mile on Saturday at Eagle Farm as a 'career PB' but he's unsure where the talented gelding's future lies this winter. 'I hadn't really planned past today. This is a career PB (personal best) for him,' Gollan said after Tenzing's courageous win over Miss Joelene ($4.60) and Lee Freedman's $101 shot Encoder. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'Whether we go any further or give him a breather now and come back after the carnival … I just have to look at what his rating adjusts to after this and then we'll make plans.' Gollan, who also picked up victories with Hurts So Good and Rockribbed on Saturday, said Tenzing had come back a 'different' horse this preparation. 'A bunch of work has gone into him for various reasons and he's really found his groove again,' Gollan said. 'He's got that sharp turn of foot now. When he can get those low draws, I was desperate to get him down in the weights. Tenzing wins the Brisbane Mile! A great @Reganbayliss ride for @tonygollan. â€' SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) April 26, 2025 'With the light weight he can sprint really quick. He's only got a sprint of about a furlong or maybe not quite even 300m but it's fast when he goes and that was the difference. 'He's a fit horse on the scene early in the carnival and he can handle the cut out of the ground. I'm sure there are others in this race who will go on to better races but for him, he deserves it. 'The ownership group stuck by me to run him in this race and everything worked out well, she's apples. 'I don't know how deep into the carnival he can go, he might not go any deeper than this.' Favourite Just Folk, trained by Victorian Gavin Bedggood, dropped back to finish a disappointing fifth in the Brisbane Mile given the gelding normally thrives on soft tracks. Gollan also collected a victory in the last race of the day when Emily Lang increased her lead in the Brisbane jockey's premiership race after steering Rockribbed ($4.40) to a dominant win over Hatchet ($6.50) and I Am Artie ($4). She is now on 52 wins – seven ahead of Angela Jones and Jimmy Orman, who is currently riding in Hong Kong.

John Mellencamp plans burial for daughter Teddi as cancer reaches stage 4
April 10 (UPI) -- Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp said that her father, "Hurts So Good" singer John Mellencamp, is planning her burial as she fights Stage 4 cancer. "Yesterday, my dad calls 11 times in a row," she said on her podcast, she told People. "Finally, I answer. I'm like, 'I'm in the bath. Let me live a little.' He goes, 'I just want to make sure you're going to be in our group family mausoleum.'" After confirming that there would be room for her children, Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, 5, to one day be buried in the Indiana mausoleum, Teddi Mellencamp agreed. "You're doing your will right now, so you may as well put it in there," he told her. Mellencamp received a stage 2 skin cancer diagnosis in 2022, but she recently announced that the melanoma had resulted in tumors in her brain and lungs. She told US Weekly that her father has called her daily amid the illness. "Some days, I'm not in the mood," she said. "I don't want a pep talk. [I tell him] 'I'll talk to you tomorrow, I'll be more pep-talk ready, but I love you.'"

Meet rock star John Mellencamp's 5 children: son Hud starred on Claim to Fame, daughter Teddi was on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills – and all are the apples of the ‘Wild Night' singer's eye
John Mellencamp, the man behind hits including 'Jack & Diane' and 'Hurts So Good', has built his legacy on heartland rock. But nothing matters more to him than family. 'I've never cared about my image – just about my family, my kids,' Mellencamp told People in 2017. Meet his five children, the eldest of whom he had while still a teenager. Fresh out of high school, he eloped with his pregnant girlfriend, Priscilla Esterline; and on December 4, 1970, they welcomed their first child, Michelle. Like her father, Michelle became a parent young, giving birth to her daughter Elexis at 18. 'I've been a grandfather for so long it's as normal to me as being a man,' Mellencamp told People in 2000. 'I swear in front of the kids and playing in a rock band is probably not very grandfatherly.' Michelle had her son Colin in 1994, followed by daughters Hannah in 1996 and Grace in 1998.
