Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School to open in Bintulu, Miri by 2027

Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development acting permanent secretary Husini Bakir said the international schools are part of the state government's ongoing efforts to enhance education quality and widen access to international-standard education, especially in strengthening students' proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). 'To date, two YSISS schools are already in operation in Petra Jaya and Kuching. Another will commence operations in Sibu this year, with two more set to open in Bintulu and Miri in 2027,' he said when representing Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn at National Science Week (MSN) 2025 here last night. Husini said the initiative aligns with the state's broader agenda to drive the development of science and technology in Sarawak, including the construction of the Sarawak Science Centre, scheduled to open early next year; the recent establishment of the Sarawak AI Center; and the ongoing development of the Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre near Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas). The MSN 2025 programme, organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti), featured a range of activities focused on science, innovation, and technology, aimed at sparking interest among students and the public. Husini emphasised the importance of continued strategic collaboration between government agencies and private partners in supporting similar initiatives in future. 'Such partnerships act as a catalyst for stronger synergy in advancing science, technology, and innovation (STI) in both Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole,' he said. ‘Jom Masuk U Carnival a crucial platform towards choosing tertiary education'

KUCHING (May 5): Several students who completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations joined the Sarawak Zone 'Jom Masuk U 2025' Carnival organised by the Higher Education Ministry over the weekend. The carnival was held at Mydin Vista Tunku in Petra Jaya here, where Politeknik Kuching Sarawak (PKS) management services division head Husini Bakir represented Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn at the opening ceremony on Saturday. 'This programme is an important initiative of the (Higher Education) Ministry in providing information related to higher education pathways directly and comprehensively to SPM, STPM and equivalent graduates,' PKS said in a statement yesterday. In his remarks, Husini said this carnival serves as a vital platform for participants to choose an appropriate tertiary programme to pursue after completing SPM. 'Participants will be equipped with the know-how on picking either a public university or private higher education institution in line with their interests and qualifications. 'Students should make full use of such a venue provided for their benefits. I hope that our children take this opportunity to gather as much relevant information as possible to prepare well before pursuing tertiary education,' he said. Meanwhile, the Sarawak Zone Politeknik and Community College festival was held concurrently with the carnival, introducing various lifelong learning courses that are open to the general public. These courses cover various fields, and come with participating certificates as a token of encouragement and recognition.
