Pakistani national arrested along LoC in Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch, third detention in three days

According to officials, a Pakistani national was arrested along the Line of Control (LoC) on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. The Army troops took the intruder, who is in early 20s, into the custody for questioning after he crossed over from across the LoC, they added, PTI reported. This marks the third case of a Pakistani national being detained in the past three days and comes after the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22 that claimed lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. The officials on May 5 said Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Pakistani national who intruded into the Indian territory. The BSF troops on duty in the area of Border Out Post (BOP) Sahapur, a flanking BOP of Dariya Mansoor, saw suspicious movement near Falku Nala ahead of the border fence and nearly 250 metres inside the Indian territory, PTI reported. He was seen concealing in the bushes and wild growth, they stated. The BSF troops and the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) cordoned off the area, making the way to successfully apprehend him. He was identified as a 24-year-old Husnain from a village in Gujranwala, Pakistan. The recoveries included Pakistani currency and an identity card. The BSF on May 3 arrested a Pakistani ranger from along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan frontier of the force took him into custody, PTI reported. On the other side, the rangers apprehended BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw on April 23 from along this international border in Punjab and they have declined to hand him over irrespective of a strong protest registered by the Indian force. Pakistan yet again resorted to unprovoked firing across the LoC for the 12th night, drawing a measured response from the Indian Army. The Indian army said it responded in a 'proportionate manner' to Pakistan's small-arms firing on intervening night of May 5-6. 'During the night of 05-06 May 2025, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small-arms firing from posts across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor in J&K. Indian Army responded in proportionate manner,' ANI quoted the Indian Army as saying. (With inputs from agencies) First Published: 6 May 2025, 02:53 PM IST

Pakistan national held in Gurdaspur; terror network busted in Amritsar, 3 arrested

Amritsar: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Pakistani national who illegally crossed into the Indian territory near Thakurpur village in the Gurdaspur sector. According to sources, the person, identified as Muhammad Ajmal Husnain, a 25-year-old resident of Gujranwala, Pakistan, was detained by the BSF personnel during the intervening night of May 3 and 4. A Pakistani national identity card issued by the Govt of Pakistan was recovered from his possession, confirming his identity. The BSF subsequently handed Husnain over to the local police for further investigation, they said. Maninder Singh, senior superintendent of police, Amritsar (Rural), informed that Husnain was produced before a local court, which remanded him into two days of police custody. The preliminary investigations suggest that Husnain may be suffering from some mental health issues and depression, which could have led to an inadvertent crossing of the border. However, the police are continuing their probe to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his intrusion into the Indian territory in the pitch dark, the SSP added. According to sources, no incriminating items were found on Husnain, and the motive behind his midnight border crossing remained unclear. A source informed that the police and the BSF were working closely to determine whether the incident was intentional or a result of disorientation. Meanwhile, police in Amritsar busted a terror network with the arrest of three persons identified as Vijay Masih, Angrej Singh, and Iqbal Singh, all residents of Tarn Taran. The police recovered six pistols – three Glock pistols and an equal number of Beretta 30 bore pistols – from their possession, along with 20 live cartridges – 9 mm and 30 bore respectively, four mobile phones, and one scooter. Gaurav Yadav, director general of police, Punjab, informed that the initial probe revealed that the trio was in touch with international criminal syndicates. The three were also involved in unlawful arms movement, he said. Yadav informed that an FIR had been registered at Lopoke police station, and police had started investigations to uncover the full extent of the network. MSID:: 120901503 413 |

BSF detains Pakistani national after he ‘unintentionally' crossed border near Punjab's Gurdaspur

In a recent incident highlighting the ongoing challenges of border security, the Border Security Force (BSF), on Monday, May 5, apprehended a Pakistani national who crossed into Indian territory near Thakarpur village in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. The individual, identified as Husnain, a resident of Gujranwala, was detained during a routine patrol by BSF personnel. According to a report by the Indian Express, Husnain was found carrying a Pakistani identification card and a small amount of Pakistani currency. During initial questioning, he stated that he had crossed the border unintentionally and was unaware of the exact demarcation line. No suspicious items were discovered in his possession, and preliminary investigations have not indicated any links to espionage or terrorist activities. The BSF handed over Husnain to the Punjab Police for further investigation. Authorities are conducting a thorough probe to ascertain the circumstances of his crossing and to rule out any potential security threats. The incident has prompted a review of current border security protocols to prevent similar occurrences in the future. This event comes amid heightened security measures along the India-Pakistan border, especially following the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives. The BSF has since intensified its vigilance and patrols along the border regions to thwart any potential infiltration attempts. Instances of civilians inadvertently crossing the border are not uncommon, given the often unclear demarcations and challenging terrains. However, each incident is treated with utmost seriousness to ensure national security is not compromised. The BSF and Punjab Police continue to work in tandem to maintain the sanctity of the international border and ensure the safety of the nation's citizens. As investigations continue, authorities remain committed to upholding stringent security measures and fostering cooperation between border forces to address and mitigate such incidents effectively.
