Palestinian official slams Israel for blocking Arab ministers' visit

Hussein al-Sheikh, vice president of Palestine, has condemned Israel's decision to block a ministerial delegation from visiting the occupied West Bank, calling it 'arrogant, provocative, and unprecedented behaviour'. 'We are examining, along with our Arab brothers, how to respond to this decision,' he posted on X. Jordan's Foreign Ministry confirmed earlier that the scheduled visit to Ramallah had been cancelled after Israeli authorities prevented the delegation from flying through airspace over the occupied territory. The delegation was set to include foreign ministers from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. In a statement, Amman said the move amounted to deliberate obstruction and underscored growing regional frustration with Israel's policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.

OPEN// FM to meet with Palestinian VP Saturday

CAIRO, May 9 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty is scheduled to meet Saturday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh. The meeting will explore bilateral relations and developments in the Palestinian territories. Egypt has welcomed Hussein al-Sheikh's appointment as vice president of the Palestinian Authority and the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The Foreign Ministry expressed strong support for the measure, which aligns with the PA's reform initiatives aimed at strengthening Palestine's internal unity and restoring the rights of Palestinian people. The move was announced during the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo on March 4. Egypt reaffirmed its ceaseless support to the PA and all Palestinian brethren in their legitimate struggle to end the Israeli occupation, reclaim their right to self-determination, and establish an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It pledged to maintain its tireless efforts to resume the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and ensure the safe passage of humanitarian aid into the war-ravaged strip, which will contribute to early recovery and reconstruction efforts and end the suffering of the Palestinian people, the statement says. During a phone call with al-Sheikh last Saturday, Abdelatty congratulated him on assuming his new post, wishing him and the PA success in their efforts to restore the rights of the Palestinian people at this critical juncture in the history of the Palestinian cause. Hamas: Appointing Sheikh Ignores Our People's Priorities in Confronting Genocide

Gaza - Saba: Hamas said the decision by the PLO Executive Committee to approve the appointment of Hussein al-Sheikh as "Vice President" is a reprehensible step, coming in response to external dictates and consecrating an approach of exclusivity and exclusion, far removed from national consensus and popular will. The movement's statement on Sunday added that the decision reflects the insistence of the PLO's powerful leadership on continuing to paralyze its institutions, rather than serving as a unifying umbrella for our people's struggle and vital forces. The movement stated that the priority of our Palestinian people today is to stop the aggression, the war of genocide and starvation, and to unify efforts to confront the occupation and settlements, not to distribute positions and divide the power pie to please external parties.
