Man identified after deadly fire at Hutchinson storage facility
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) – Authorities have identified the person found dead following a fire at a Hutchinson storage business on Tuesday, along with the cause of the fire. Around 8 a.m., the Hutchinson Fire Department and the Hutchinson Police Department responded to a commercial structure fire report at 4th Avenue and Bonebrake. Upon arrival, police saw smoke coming from the building. Firefighters found one of the eight storage units filled with smoke. After forcing entry into several compartments, they discovered four units on fire and began extinguishing the flames. During their efforts, they found a body. On Wednesday, the Hutchinson Fire Department identified the victim as Bret Fallis of Hutchinson. His exact cause of death has not yet been released. Investigators determined the fire was caused by the improper disposal of smoking materials, which ignited combustible items in the unit where Fallis was found. For more Kansas news, click here. Motorcyclist dies in rear-end crash near Emporia
LYON COUNTY (KSNT) – On Monday, a 60-year-old motorcyclist from Saint Joseph died after getting rear-ended on I-35 north of Emporia. At 4:37 p.m. the 60-year-old was driving a Honda Goldwing north on I-35 in the left lane due to a lane closure. A 26-year-old man driving a Mazda CX-3 came up behind the 60-year-old and rear ended the motorcycle. As a result, the 60-year-old fell off of the motorcycle, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP). The 60-year-old died from his injuries and his next of kin was notified by the Hutchinson Police Department. The 26-year-old had no injuries. According to the KHP, the 60-year-old wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. For more local news, click here. Motorcyclist dies after crash in Hutchinson
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) – A man is dead after a motorcycle and another vehicle crashed in Hutchinson Monday morning. It happened around 10:45 a.m. at West 25th Avenue and North Monroe Street. Man dead, two seriously injured in southeast Wichita crash When first responders arrived, they found a motorcyclist, identified as Joseph L. Kelly of Hutchinson, unresponsive. He was later pronounced deceased. According to the Hutchinson Police Department, Kelly was heading north on Monroe Street when he struck a passenger vehicle heading east on 25th Avenue. The driver of the vehicle, a woman from Hutchinson, reported no injuries. This crash is under investigation. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call Traffic Officers L. Hammond or J. Man arrested in connection to deadly Hutchinson house fire
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the deaths of a woman and child, whose bodies were discovered in a Hutchinson house fire. Hutchinson police say the man is facing multiple charges in the deaths of 32-year-old Kalsey Payton of Hutchinson and 4-year-old Naomi Payton. It happened early Saturday in the 1000 block of E. 3rd Ave. The suspect and Naomi's 6-year-old sister were transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment shortly after emergency personnel arrived on the scene. The girl was later transferred to St. Francis in Wichita but has since been treated and released. KBI investigating after Salina standoff ends in man shot Hutchinson police say the man was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility Tuesday on suspicion of the following: Two counts of first-degree murder One count of aggravated arson One count of aggravated endangering a child Two counts of felony interference with law enforcement The case has been turned over to the Reno County Attorney's Office, and formal charges are pending. The Hutchinson Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Hutchinson Fire Department, the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Naomi's biological father has started a GoFundMe to help lay his daughter to rest.
