Raghuvamsh Chavali: Soaring to the Top with ‘Wings Over Concrete'

Known for capturing the quiet elegance of birds amid cityscapes, Raghuvamsh Chavali, a Hyderabad-born photographer now based in Canada, is earning global acclaim for his compelling visual storytelling. His project 'Wings Over Concrete' won first place in the Photo Project category at the 10th 35AWARDS, selected from over 4,73,100 entries from 174 countries. Raghuvamsh is one of the few Indian-origin photographers to receive this honour, making waves in the global creative community. Balancing a full-time tech career, his lens fuses nature's rawness with urban rhythm. In 2025 alone, he not only won multiple 35AWARDS categories but also placed in the Top 50 at the All About Photo Awards and was recognised at the Belfast Photo Festival. In conversation with CE, he opens up about his journey, inspirations, and the art of finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. How does it feel to receive such a prestigious award? It's humbling. Winning first place at 35AWARDS, from over 4,73,100 submissions by 112,700 photographers across 174 countries, still feels surreal. More than a trophy, it affirms years of quiet effort, experimentation, and creative risk. It's proof that slow growth eventually finds its light. What does this recognition mean to you? Personally, it validates the patient process behind the work. Professionally, it opens new doors. It proves that even unconventional storytelling has space in global art. Tell us about your journey from Hyderabad to Canada. Growing up in Hyderabad, I explored Indian national parks and urban streets alike, always drawn to wildlife. After moving to Canada in 2021, the contrast in landscapes and climates gave me a fresh perspective. What began as curiosity turned into a passion to document and share what I was seeing.

I love acting, singing and composing; want to keep doing it all: Singer Sree Rama Chandra

Whether it's recording songs in multiple languages, experimenting with indie sounds, or lighting up the stage with live performances, Sree Rama Chandra continues to explore multiple avenues without being confined to one role. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a candid chat with Hyderabad Times , the Hyderabad-born artiste talks about his connection to the city, balancing music and acting, exploring new genres, and more. 'Acting, singing, performing — I want to keep doing everything' Over the years, Sree Rama Chandra has built a diverse profile — recording songs in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil, hosting shows, performing live, and acting. But he doesn't see the need to pick one lane. 'I don't think anybody's going to put a gun to my head and ask me to choose,' he says. 'I enjoy everything — acting, singing, composing, and performing. I want to continue doing all of it.' 'Every South Indian wants to be an actor' Though Sree Rama Chandra began his career as a singer, he ventured into acting with the show called Papam Pasivadu . Reflecting on his love for acting, he shares, "While growing up I was always mesmerised by the stars on screen. I think every South Indian wants to be an actor- we grew up watching legends like NT Rama Rao and Chiranjeevi. I'm thankful I got some good opportunities and would love to do more, especially with music videos that blend story, dance and performance." 'Reality shows are just the beginning — we still have to prove ourselves' With hits like Subhanallah ( Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani ) and O Rendu Prema Meghaalila (Baby) , Sree Rama Chandra has become a familiar name among audiences across multiple languages. However, he points out that even after winning Indian Idol in 2010, his path to playback singing was filled with challenges. 'Coming from a reality show background, it's often hard to break into playback singing,' he notes, adding, 'But Indian Idol gave me visibility. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now I didn't have any connections, so it was my way to show people what I could do. That's how songs like Subhanallah and Balma happened.' One of my recent tracks, Rama 2.0, let me revisit my Carnatic roots in a new way. I tried blending electronic sounds with the Krithi Sri Rama Padama, which I had learned from my gurus, the Hyderabad Sisters 'The indie scene has finally come into its own' The indie music space in India, according to him, has changed considerably. 'There's been a shift in the last few years. Independent artistes are building their own identity, separate from film music. That's important, because opportunities in playback are limited. I've always believed musicians shouldn't be restricted to cinema alone.' For young artistes, he recommends focusing on refining their skill and staying committed. 'There's no shortcut — just keep practicing and be ready when the opportunity knocks.' 'I've got folk, Punjabi, and Hindi tracks on the way' Looking ahead, Sree Rama Chandra has a packed independent music calendar. 'I have a folk song called Bangaru that I shot in Dubai, a Punjabi track titled Chhen, and a Hindi single, Sang Tere. These are lined up for release this year.' - Divya Shree

Siraj helps Gujarat to hat-trick of IPL wins

Pace bowler Mohammed Siraj on Sunday said his omission from the Indian team made him ready for IPL as his 4-17 helped Gujarat Titans hammer Sunrisers Hyderabad for a third straight win. Hyderabad-born Siraj kept up his bowling form in the T20 tournament this season with nine wickets in four matches and kept down hosts Hyderabad to 152-8. Skipper Shubman Gill hit an unbeaten 61 as Gujarat, champions in their debut season in 2022, overhauled the total with 20 balls and seven wickets to spare for their third victory in four matches. It was Siraj's second successive match-winning show after he returned 3-19 against his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Wednesday. Siraj, who was dropped from the ODI Champions Trophy that India won last month, said the break made him work on his bowling. "At the start (of the break), I could not digest," Siraj said after being named player of the match. "But then I explained to myself that I have so many things planned. It (selection for Champions Trophy) was not to be, but I concentrated on my mindset, my fitness. Enjoying my bowling now." The 31-year-old Siraj added: "When you are not selected (for India), doubts do creep in, but I wanted to be ready for the IPL." Gill praised his champion bowler, saying, "The energy he brings is tremendous. When playing against him, you want him in your team. His energy is infectious." Bengaluru released Siraj after last season and the India fast bowler was bought by Gujarat for $1.4 million in the November auction. Hyderabad, who lost the IPL final to Kolkata Knight Riders last year, remain at the bottom of the 10-team table with four successive defeats from five outings. Valiant Cummins Hyderabad skipper Pat Cummins struck early to dent Gujarat's chase when he had Jos Buttler out for a duck after fellow quick Mohammed Shami had removed opener Sai Sudharsan. Gill and number four Washington Sundar, a left-hand batter who smashed 49 off 29 balls, put the chase on track in their stand of 90 after Gujarat slipped to 16-2. Shami denied Sundar his fifty with Aniket Verma taking a good catch in the deep, a decision that left the batsman and the Gujarat camp disappointed. Impact substitute Sherfane Rutherford, a West Indian left-hander, kept up the charge with a flurry of boundaries including four in a row off Abhishek's left-arm spin to ease into the chase. Rutherford smashed 35 off 16 balls laced with six fours and one six. Gill anchored the chase in his 43-ball knock and hit the winning run. Siraj remained hero as he removed openers Travis Head, for eight in the first over, and then another left-hander Abhishek Sharma, for 18, to hurt Hyderabad. Prasidh Krishna took down left-hander Ishan Kishan for 17 before Sai Kishore took charge with his left-arm spin to rattle the opposition middle-order. Kishore sent back Heinrich Klaasen, for 27, and Nitish Reddy, for 31, as Hyderabad wobbled and Siraj came back with two wickets with the old ball in his final over. Cummins smashed 22 off nine balls in a late blitz that got his team 17 runs from the 20th over off veteran pace bowler Ishant Sharma, who leaked 53 of his four.
