Benson Boone's New Single Ends His Winning Streak

Later this month, Benson Boone will release his sophomore album American Heart. The singer-songwriter has been promoting the upcoming project for months with a handful of singles, and most of the tunes he's dropped from the full-length have both become big hits in the United Kingdom. The Grammy nominee, however, breaks his winning streak this week with 'Momma Song.' The third official cut from the sophomore effort didn't turn out to be the smash he was hoping for — or the kind of success he's earned before. 'Momma Song' debuts on two charts across the Atlantic this week. A tune that slows things down a bit compared to his previous poppy efforts, 'Momma Song' enters the Official Singles Downloads list at No. 48 and the Official Singles Sales chart at No. 50. That puts it right in the middle of the latter tally, which tracks the bestselling tracks of any style and on any format in the U.K. As it debuts, 'Momma Song' becomes the first single from American Heart to miss the main ranking of the most consumed tracks in the U.K. Both 'Sorry, I'm Here for Someone Else' and 'Mystical Magical' have already spent at least a month on that busy list, which blends sales and streams to show what the British public is listening to. The two tunes have already cracked the top 20, and while 'Momma Song' could join them in the coming weeks, the track is not off to a great start, like the kind its predecessors enjoyed. This week, both 'Sorry, I'm Here for Someone Else' and 'Mystical Magical' drop on the Official Singles chart, but the two remain top 40 wins. The former, which served as the lead promotional cut from American Heart, dips to No. 25. 'Mystical Magical,' the more recent of the two, descends by just three spaces to No. 18. Those tracks peaked at Nos. 20 and 13, respectively. 'Sorry, I'm Here for Someone Else' and 'Mystical Magical' currently appear on four tallies apiece in the U.K., including the Official Streaming list as well as both sales-only charts, where 'Momma Song' debuts. 'Mystical Magical' is only a few spots behind 'Momma Song,' which speaks volumes about the popularity of the second official American Heart single, but doesn't say a whole lot about the ballad that was pushed as the third promotional cut, which slightly disappoints as it arrives.
