Death owing to COVID suspected in Belagavi
An old man is suspected to have died of COVID-19 related complications in Belagavi. The 72 year old patient from Benakanahalli village, was taken to a private hospital after he complained of flu-like symptoms four days ago. The doctors referred him to Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. Doctors shifted him to the COVID ward on Monday. He died in the early hours on Wednesday. His relatives were present when the body was cremated as per COVID norms, Health Department officials said. Vithal Shindhe, district surgeon, told reporters that the patient had several problems including breathlessness. He was shifted from a private hospital to BIMS following a RAT test. His swab samples have been collected and sent to Hubballi for further confirmation. All the staff and doctors in BIMS will be wearing masks, he said. The senior citizen was the second COVID-19 positive patient in the district. The first detected case, a young pregnant woman, is recovering in a private hospital, I.P. Gadad, district health and family welfare officer, said. A team of doctors and para medical staff have left for Benakanahalli, the native village of the deceased. They are conducting COVID tests of all the primary and secondary contacts of the patient and those having symptoms of discomfort, and others.

Pregnant woman tests positive for COVID-19 in Belagavi
A case of COVID-19 has been detected at a private hospital in Belagavi, officials said. A 25-year-old pregnant woman from a village near Belagavi has tested positive for the virus. She had travelled from Maharashtra recently, I.P. Gadad, district health and family welfare officer, said. The patient has been identified as primigravida (first time pregnant) and she is under constant observation by doctors and paramedics. The patient is stable and undergoing treatment. She had consulted doctors at the KLE Charitable Hospital in Yallur and was later shifted to the KLE Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital in Belagavi. She is being treated as an in-patient, according to reports. 'As many as eight suspected cases were tested for COVID-19, but all have turned negative. COVID-19 wards are being set up in the district hospital and taluk hospitals. We are issuing a general warning, but there is no need to panic. Children, senior citizens and those with conditions like diabetes and hypertension need to be careful,' he said. 'A team of officials has been camping in Yallur, the native village of the patient. Mass testing of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) are being conducted. Members of all the 266 houses in the village have been tested and no one has tested positive. Even the primary and secondary contacts of the patient — family members and persons who came in contact with the patient — have not tested positive,' Dr. Gadad said. All suspected cases are being tested. An information and education campaign is being carried out across the district. The Departments of Health and Medical Education are working in coordination, the officer added.
