Ponting On Gill's 'Out Of Character' Aggression: '..Show That It's His Team Now'
Ricky Ponting backed Shubman Gill's on-field aggression during the Lord's Test, saying the Indian captain's actions, though out of character, showed leadership and assertiveness. Ahead of the crucial fourth Test at Old Trafford starting on Wednesday, legendary batter Ricky Ponting has supported India skipper Shubman Gill's on-field aggression during the Lord's Test, stating that Gill was standing up for his team. With the series level at 1-1 heading into the Lord's Test last week, the fiercely contested third Test between England and India delivered plenty of on-field tension. One of the more heated moments came late on Day 3, when Gill had an animated exchange with England's openers. After India matched England's first-innings total of 387, they hoped to sneak in two quick overs in the final six minutes of the day. However, Zak Crawley thwarted those plans by pulling out of two deliveries during Jasprit Bumrah's run-up and calling the physio for a hand injury, leading to a fiery confrontation between Gill and the two openers. ICC Hall of Famer Ponting understood why Gill's aggressive posturing at Lord's was met with surprise. Ponting said that Gill's actions were out of character based on what he knew of him in the past. 'That was a little out of character from what I've known from Shubman in the past," Ponting told host Sanjana Ganesan in the latest episode of The ICC Review. 'I am sure everyone who was there watching it and I know you would know him quite well, that's not what he's generally like." However, Ponting believes that Gill was taking a stand for his team in that situation. 'That's the captain standing up for his team, that's a captain really wanting to show that it's his team now and this is the way that we're going to play the game, and also, I guess, wanting to give a little bit back." Ponting, who played Tests in England across four separate tours and twice as captain (2005 and 2009), said that the pressures of such a high-profile tour could impact a skipper. 'The UK can be a hard place to play. The crowds, as much as they love their game, can be as hostile a place to play as anywhere in the world. 'The media there, when you're in a big series, when it's an Ashes series or when it's England and India, the media always feel like they're right on top of your back as well." What Does Ponting Want Gill To Do? Ponting also felt that during the high-intensity Test, which India narrowly lost by 22 runs, Gill needed to assert himself and lead with authority, similar to former captain Virat Kohli. 'I think that's him starting to put his stamp on his team. And a lot like Virat (Kohli) did, similar ways like that. Rohit (Sharma) probably was never as outwardly aggressive, I guess, especially to opposition players. 'I know he (Rohit) would quite often get aggressive with his teammates and try to bring the best out of them that way. But I love watching Shubman stand up for what he thought was right in the game last week." IA seeks public feedback on draft insurance law
The Insurance Authority (IA) put forth the draft insurance law for public consultation via the Istitlaa platform until July 22. The draft bill aims to achieve the stability and growth of the insurance sector, as well as stimulate investment therein, and contribute to financial stability. This is in addition to protecting the rights of policyholders, insured persons, and beneficiaries, according to the authority. It also seeks to promote, regulate, and ensure fair competition among industry players, while strengthening stakeholders' confidence in the local insurance sector. This is besides establishing and upholding the principles and pillars of the contractual insurance ties, in addition to exercising effective supervision and oversight to ensure justice and transparency within the insurance sector. Moreover, it aspires to support the sector's innovation and digital transformation, including training and localization initiatives, the authority added. IA indicated that the provision of the law will apply to all insurance and reinsurance operations, and any individual exercising any of the insurance or reinsurance activities within the Kingdom.

Dublin Airport wins approval to increase night-time flights despite local backlash
Dublin Airport has been given permission to increase the number of night-time flights, as An Coimisiún Pleanála reversed an earlier draft decision to limit these flights. The decision will also allow the north runway of the airport to be used up to midnight and from 6am, rather than the original permission of up to 11pm and from 7am. Last September, the planning board said it would limit the number of flights arriving and taking off between 11pm and 7am to 13,000 'movements' per annum, in a move criticised by DAA as 'contradictory' and a 'backwards step.' However, in its final decision issued on Thursday, it changed this to 35,672 'night-time aircraft movements.' Furthermore, a noise quota scheme will also apply to aircraft using the north runway, which may limit the types of aircraft that can be used, depending on how noisy they are. An Coimisiún Pleanála said this would allow for 'airport growth while providing an essential safeguard against excessive night-time activity.' 'The cap also accommodates historic slots and future flexibility,' it said. 'The inclusion of an air traffic movement cap was considered a necessary and proportionate additional operating restriction to ensure that the overall noise environment would not deteriorate and that the increase in nighttime flights would not result in significant adverse effects on the surrounding population and environment.' A local residents' group, however, has described the new decision from An Coimisiún Pleanála as 'devastating' and said it amounts to a 'capitulation' from the planning board. They also said it doesn't address the noise issues plaguing locals near the airport. The issue first came before An Coimisiún Pleanála on foot of an application for a 'relevant action' by DAA to fundamentally alter the planning permission restrictions placed on the airport when the new north runway came into use three years ago. It was initially approved by Fingal County Council before being appealed to the planning board by groups including Friends of the Irish Environment in August 2022. While the planning board has now made its decision, it remains open to a Judicial Review challenging its findings. In a statement, DAA said it welcomed the decision by An Coimisiún Pleanála regarding extended hours for the north runway and the introduction of an annual noise quota. 'North Runway is a critical enabler for the growth of Dublin Airport,' said DAA chief Kenny Jacobs. 'We welcome the clarity today's decision brings... [and] reaffirm our clear commitment to engaging with the local community to mitigate the impact of airport operations.' While DAA expressed disappointment over the imposition of an annual cap of 35,672 night-time aircraft movements in addition to the noise quota, the decision removes a major hurdle to its Infrastructure Application (IA), which seeks permission to grow annual passenger numbers to 40 million. 'Today's decision is also key to unlocking the block preventing FCC from progressing our application to build the piers and stands needed," Mr Jacods said. "We need to start building — that's our biggest issue, and we need planning permission to do that,' Mr Jacobs said. He also welcomed the government's plan to address the existing passenger cap through legislation, calling for 'bold, ambitious steps... for our small, open, island economy.'
