Buckingham Palace Just Shared New Photos of a Surprising Royal Family Member (And It's Not Who I Expected)

Buckingham Palace always knows how to keep us on our toes. The latest update? The palace just shared exclusive photos of a recent event at St Andrew's Youth Club in Westminster, and there was a very special surprise guest who made a visit: King Charles's brother, Prince Edward, The Duke of Edinburgh. According to the update shared by Buckingham, the Duke visited as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, and the visit consisted of a range of wellbeing-focused activities that included baking, mindful colouring and essential oil blending. What's more, he also had the opportunity to attend an under-9s football match for some sporting action afterwards. Activities like these are especially important to the royal, as he is a patron of the St Andrew's Youth Club charity, a role he's held since 2020 when he took the reins from his father. Now, it isn't unusual for the prince to attend a public outing, but it is rare and surprising that he is the sole focus of an Instagram post on King Charles's dedicated Instagram feed (Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Catherine are much more likely to appear). Also, this isn't the first time this year Prince Edward made an appearance for his charitable initiatives. This past February, he made a stop at Mumbai Stadium to meet with the students who are participating in his international award program, IAYP India, which is a cause committed to encouraging prospective students in the country to reach their full potential. Yui Mok -A few days later, the palace shared more photos of Prince Edward's India trip where he was joined by his wife, Sofie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. This included a visit to the Bhaktapur Hospital Maternity Wing where, according to the organization, they learned about maternal health and newborn care. Playing volleyball and watching a football match with Prince Edward certainly sounds like a memorable experience, and I predict we'll be seeing a lot more of these appearances from him throughout the remainder of 2025. Buckingham Palace Just Shared New Photos of a Surprising Royal Family Member (And It Had Me Doing a Double Take)

If there's one thing the royal family is known for, it's keeping busy. Whether it's Prince William and Kate Middleton's whirlwind trip to Scotland or Meghan Markle making her debut as a guest on a podcast, royal family members always seem to be on the move. Luckily for royal watchers, much of their work is shared publicly through social media. A quick scroll through the official Royal Family Instagram account offers a glimpse into the engagements of Duchess Sophie, Princess Anne, and, of course, King Charles and Queen Camilla. But a recent post caught my attention for a different reason—it featured a royal we haven't seen much of lately: Prince Edward. Buckingham Palace shared a trio of photos showing the Duke of Edinburgh at a Scout Association event and it was a refreshing surprise. In the first photo, Prince Edward is seen standing across from a group of scouts, cane in hand. The second captures him seated among others, waving as scouts pass by to greet them. The third shows him standing next to Chief Scout Dwayne Fields. 'A wonderful day honouring young awardees of The King's Scout Award - the highest recognition in Scouting adventure and skill development,' the April 28 post was captioned. 'At Windsor Castle, The Duke of Kent joined Chief Scout Dwayne Fields to congratulate the recipients - and to celebrate 50 years of His Royal Highness's work with the @Scouts Association!' The last time I remember seeing Prince Edward featured was about a month ago, when the palace posted a slideshow of him visiting Mumbai Stadium. There, he was seen speaking with students participating in his International Award Program (IAYP India), which supports young people in reaching their full potential. Prince Edward isn't the only one connecting with the Scouts recently—Kate Middleton also released two surprise videos earlier this month, championing both the organization and the importance of outdoor learning. Buckingham Palace Just Shared Photos of a Surprising Royal Family Member on IG—& It Definitely Isn't Who I Expected

Between happy royal baby news from Princess Bea and honoring fashion icon Anna Wintour, the royal family's Instagram has been dropping some serious gems lately. But what really caught my eye is that the Buckingham feed is finally highlighting one royal family member we don't see very often: The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward. Last month, Buckingham Palace released a series of photos of the prince visiting troops in Estonia while trudging through snow. But the royal family just shared a few more images of the Duke, and I'm pretty surprised to see him back for more. The IG slideshow shows Prince Edward in Mumbai Stadium chatting it up with students participating in his international award program, IAYP India, a cause committed to encouraging prospective students in the country to reach their full potential. The caption reads, "The Duke of Edinburgh has been in Mumbai and Delhi to meet those participating in @IAYPIndia, a non-formal education and learning framework supporting young people to find their purpose, place and passion in the world." It continues, "Since its inception in India in 1962, the Award has helped more than 150,000 students from 325 schools and educational institutions across the country." But the posts don't just stop there. Days later, the palace shared more photos of Prince Edward on his trip to India, but this time he's joined by another royal family member, his wife, Sofie, the Duchess of Edinburgh. While they were both there for more festivities celebrating IAYP, the caption revealed Sophie also took a trip to "Bhaktapur Hospital Maternity Wing to learn about maternal health and newborn care." During their short pitstop in Nepal, the pair were also seen breaking a few royal rules by showing some rare PDA. While visiting the National Botanical Garden on Thursday, the Duke and Duchess were seen holding hands as they gracefully walked the grounds. See the photo only the start of the year, but I predict we're going to be seeing a lot more of the Duke and Duchess in 2025. Stay up-to-date on every breaking royal family story by subscribing here.
