IDAK-KDD Shooting Championship 2025 hits the mark

The IDAK-KDD Shooting Championship 2025, held at the Mayadeen Shooting Range (Q8 Shooting), was a spectacular showcase of skill, sportsmanship and spirited camaraderie. Organized by the IDAK Sports Committee — Dr Eldho George (Chair), Dr Renjit George (Co-Chair), Dr Anjana Nair, Dr Abraham Thomas, Dr Sharon Thomas and Dr Varsha Manmohanan — the event stood as a shining example of teamwork and sporting enthusiasm. The championship was officially inaugurated by IDAK President Dr George P Alex, in the presence of Chief Guest Anand, representing title sponsor KDD, and representatives from remittance partner Al Mulla Exchange, setting the tone for an exciting day of competitive marksmanship. Participants received a comprehensive introduction to shooting techniques and were guided through various aspects of the competition by skilled instructors. The contest featured two main categories — Rifle Shooting and Pistol Shooting — where participants showcased precision, focus, and composure. Rifle shooting winners: 1st Place: Dr Shiraz; 2nd Place: Dr Samit; 3rd Place: Dr Joe Pistol shooting winners: 1st Place: Dr Suchindran; 2nd Place: Reuvan Thomas; 3rd Place: Dr Jijan Dr Shiraz and Dr Suchindran were crowned top shooters of the championship in the rifle and pistol categories respectively, demonstrating exceptional accuracy under pressure. The excitement of the day was captured beautifully by photographers Dr Jijan, Dr Nithin, Dr Jyothy and Dr Abraham. Behind the scenes, seamless coordination by Dr Asheel, Dr George and Dr Sudhin ensured the event ran smoothly. IDAK's scientific symposium ‘DentEdge' concludes

Indian Dentists' Alliance in Kuwait (IDAK), in association with Kuwait Dental Association (KDA), held its prestigious 5th International Scientific Symposium (ISS) at the Al-Hashmi Ballroom, Radisson Blu Hotel on April 25, 2025. The event was accredited for 8 CME points with Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (KIMS). The symposium, titled DentEdge: Current Paradigms in Dentistry, brought together over 300 practicing dentists in Kuwait. Dr Jagan Kumar Baskaradoss, the chairman of the Scientific Committee, welcomed the speakers, dignitaries, and participants to the event and officially inaugurated it. The full-day event featured three prominent international speakers – Prof Dr Monty Duggal, Prof Dr Gunaseelan Rajan and Dr Siju Jacob - and a local speaker, Dr Manal Abu AlMelh. Prof Dr Monty Duggal, the Dean of College of Dentistry, Qatar University is a world-renowned pediatric dentist, started the event with an excellent presentation on Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH). His presentation comprehensively covered the topic, including the clinical characteristics, etiology, and management of MIH patients. Dr Gunaseelan Rajan, a trailblazer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of Rajan's Institute in Chennai, India, spoke about zygomatic implants, presenting clinical cases managed in his clinic, which captivated the audience and left everyone spellbound. Dr Siju Jacob, Director of The Microscope Training Center in Bangalore & New Delhi, India, showcased how microscopes could be part of everyday general dental practice. Dr Jacob captivated the audience with his enchanting presentation skills. Lastly, Dr Manal Abu Al-Melh, Associate Professor in College of Dentistry at Kuwait University, presented on the topic of 'painless orthodontics,' effortlessly combining her personal experiences with evidence-based research findings into clinical practice. The 1st Dr David Gnanashekar Oration, in memory of the Founding President of IDAK, was delivered by Dr Monty Duggal, who spoke about managing long-term complications of severe dento-alveolar trauma in adolescents using bone augmentation and auto-transplantation. His lecture helped raise awareness about this relatively new technique to replace missing teeth. The chief guest for the felicitation ceremony was Dr Jaber Al-Taqi, Director of Dental Administration, Ministry of Health. Dr Fahad Al-Zoubi, Chair of the Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (KIMS), and Dr Adel Al-Asfour, Former Dean and Chairman of the Department of Surgical Sciences, College of Dentistry, Kuwait University, were the 'Guests of Honor' for the event. Dr. George P Alex, President of IDAK, welcomed the dignitaries and the audience and outlined IDAK's achievements in past symposiums. The Scientific Committee chairman Dr Jagan Kumar Baskaradoss, introduced the speakers and session chairpersons to the dignitaries and highlighted the importance of this symposium. Dr Fahad appreciated IDAK for successfully conducting the symposium, which he believes helps to disseminate knowledge to busy dental practitioners in the country. He also spoke about his close links with India and Indian colleagues in his address. He expressed his happiness over the high standard of the symposium. IDAKonnect, a members directory edited by the membership committee headed by Dr Tiny Elsa Thomas, was released during the function by Dr Jaber Al Taqi, who handed the first copy to Dr Fahad Al-Zoubi. President Dr George P Alex complimented the membership committee for bringing out the members directory, the first in the last 12 years, and said it would enable the members to stay connected more meaningfully.

IDAK Food Group acquires Italian pizza company Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni

Switzerland's IDAK Food Group acquired Italian pizza maker Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni for an undisclosed sum, the companies announced yesterday (5 May). Sorrento Sapori is based in Eboli, southern Italy. It manufactures frozen pizza snacks in its own factory and supplies national and international airline caterers, other catering companies and retailers. It employs around 100 staff. Pizza production will remain unchanged at Sorrento Sapori's site in Eboli, the companies said. IDAK Food Group specialises in frozen foods, including pizza products. "Sorrento Sapori is the ideal strategic fit for our group of companies. With this acquisition, we are significantly expanding and expanding our product portfolio in the pizza and pizza snacks sector. In addition, we see Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni has a lot of growth potential and want to use it to increase demand from our international clientele," said IDAK CEO Christof Lehmann. "We have a strong and visionary partner for the next growth steps who acts decisively and thinks entrepreneurially," added Roberto Savarese, MD and previous owner of Sorrento Sapori. 'In terms of innovative spirit, customer orientation and management and philosophy of quality at IDAK, there are very similar values to those we live by." IDAK owns the Swiss potato-snacks business Kadi, which it acquired in 2019; pizza maker Margherita Spa from Fregona, north-east Italy, acquired in 2020; and, since 2023 confectionery and baked goods maker Romer's Hausbäckerei. In February, Römer's Hausbäckerei acquired fellow Swiss bakery business Kern & Sammet for an undisclosed sum. IDAK was acquired by London and New York-based investment company TowerBrook Capital Partners in July. Towerbrook bought a majority stake in the business from previous owners Invision and Nord Holding for an undisclosed sum. In 2024, IDAK employed around 1,200 people and achieved sales of over CHF260m ($315m). Sorrento Sapori was founded in 2001 by Roberto Savarese, Antonino Esposito and Luigi Apreda. KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The vibrant spirit of camaraderie and competition came alive at PlayPark Lounge, Argan Al Bida'a, Salmiya, as IDAK successfully hosted the much-anticipated IDAK-KDD TriSport Indoor Championship. The event was a resounding success, blending enthusiasm, energy, and healthy competition across three exciting indoor sports, namely, Table Tennis, Pool, and Carroms. Organized by the dynamic IDAK Sports Committee comprising Dr. Eldho George (Chair), Dr. Renjit George (Co-chair), Dr. Anjana Nair, Dr. Abraham Thomas, Dr. Varsha Manmohan, and Dr. Sharon Thomas, the championship witnessed three spirited teams, the Green Dragons, Red Raptors, and Blue Phoenixes, battling it out for top honors. IDAK President Dr. George P. Alex ceremoniously flagged off the event, along with Mr. Anand, representing title sponsor KDD, as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance was Mr. Srerang, representing Al Mulla Exchange, the official Remittance Partner, further adding prestige to the occasion.
