Baton Rouge student who rode bike to school given car, gas card donated by community
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The IDEA Bridge College Preparatory community came together in a heartfelt celebration to honor their senior athletes during the team's final home basketball game.
The school honored students for their sports, hard work and studies. Then, one senior, Kentrell Taylor, got a special surprise.
Taylor has attended IDEA Bridge for seven years and has been part of the basketball team for three years.
The school said he is an honor roll student, is in the Rosebuds CNA program and volunteers as a tutor with Teaching For America's Ignite Program. He also represented IDEA Bridge in talks with East Baton Rouge Parish and health experts.
The school said he rides his bike to school every day to ensure he receives his education.
Even with the challenges of biking to school, helping his family and juggling schoolwork and activities, his determination inspired staff to support him.
Benefit to raise money for Baton Rouge police officer after his son dies unexpectedly
Regional Towing donated the car thanks to community outreach. It also paid for the tax, title, and license fees.
Taylor was given the keys and license to the car along with a gas card to help him pay for gas for the next year, according to IDEA Schools.
