JoSAA Counselling 2025 Begins: Over 60,000 Seats Across 21 Institutes, Understanding The Seat Matrix

Joint Seat Allocation Authority Counseling 2025 has commenced today, June 3, 2025. The JoSAA Counseling 2025 will be conducted in six rounds up till June 12. This includes seat allocation, document verification and fee payment, etc. If seats remain vacant even after JoSAA counseling, then the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) will conduct additional rounds. The full schedule is available on the official website at JoSAA provides a single online platform for admission to 121 institutes, which include 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and 40 other GFTIs. This makes the process transparent and streamlined. This process ensures that seats in engineering colleges do not remain vacant. Seat allocation is based on JEE Main/Advanced rank and candidate's choice. Candidates are given the option to accept their seat or choose a better option through freeze, float and slide options. The eligibility criteria to appear for JoSAA counselling is as follows: JEE Main 2025 Qualifiers: It is mandatory to obtain a valid rank in JEE Main 2025 for admission to NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and other GFTIs. Minimum 75% marks in class 12 for general category (65% for SC/ST/PwD) and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. JEE Advanced 2025 Qualifiers: For admission in IIT, it is necessary to qualify JEE Advanced 2025. JoSAA Counselling Process JoSAA counselling 2025 consists of the following stages: Choice Filling and Locking: In this process, candidates can enter their preference order by selecting the institute and course of their choice. Choice locking is mandatory and no change will be possible after this. Keep the printout for future. Mock seat allotment: Mock allotment gives candidates an idea of their probable seat. Based on this, they can change their choices. Seat allocation: Seat allocation will be done in six rounds. It is based on rank, category and preferences. For this, candidates have to download the 'Preliminary Seat Allotment Letter'. Seat acceptance and fee payment: Seat acceptance fee of Rs 30,000 for general category candidates; and Rs 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD needs to be paid. Candidates can choose options like Freeze (accept the seat), Float (participate in the next round for a better seat) or Slide (better course in the same institute). Reporting at Institute: Candidates have to go through document verification and fee submission at the allotted institute for final admission. CSAB Special Round: After the completion of JoSAA counseling 2025, if seats remain vacant then CSAB will conduct a special round.
