Workshops highlight role of AI in education
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), in collaboration with various academic and professional institutions, recently organised a series of specialised events and workshops that delved into the increasing potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in education, management and tourism. These events placed a strong emphasis on the ethical dimensions of modern AI applications.
The first workshop aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively incorporate AI and robotics into the learning process and featured interactive applications and case studies while highlighting the importance of transitioning from traditional teaching methods to smart learning environments that nurture 21st-century skills.
The second workshop, titled 'Responsible Use of AI in Organisational Decision-Making", covered key concepts such as bias, accountability, transparency and responsible innovation. The participants showed keen interest in applying these principles in their work settings, emphasising the shared commitment of the university and ICESCO to ethical digital transformation in professional environments.
The series concluded with a virtual workshop on 'Empowering Educators with Ethical AI: Exploring the IIOE Platform for Course Design and Digital Transformation". Experts from Unesco led the session, aiming to empower academic staff to develop ethical, AI-integrated curricula.
The organisers recommended follow-up hands-on training and the establishment of certification programnes to further promote engagement.
Overall, these workshops highlighted UTAS's ongoing dedication, along with its partners, to promoting ethical and practical understanding of artificial intelligence in education, management and scientific research. The events aimed to prepare a new generation of professionals capable of leading sustainable digital transformation across various sectors.
