Hafizahanani bags overall title

Kota Kinabalu: Nur Hafizahanani Zailan from Sabah Sailing Association (Saila) clinched the overall title in the marathon race at the 37th Harvest Festival and Sabah Fest Open Day Regatta 2025 organised by Kinabalu Yacht Club (KYC) in Tanjung Aru on Sunday. Two of her teammates also made it to the podium with second place going to Mohammad Syahieradham Raiman and Muhammad Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus in third. Nur Hafizahanani and Aiman were also the top two finishers in the ILCA 6 marathon category and in third place was Zeti Irdina Zainal. The ILCA 7 marathon title went to Adam Carraz and in second place was Qasya Chairullah with Cody Long Tse Nan in third. In the ILCA 4 class, Muhammad Aiman Aqeel was the winner ahead of Kim Titus Soong Rong Khoong and Nur Syameera Sofea Azaman. The 470 class marathon title was won by Melissa Audrey Yong and her crew Syazwi Thaqif Shahirul followed by Muhammad Afiq Irsyad Adam/Melvin Sikayun and Kelly Yin Attilio/Attilio Cecchini, while the top two places in the 420 class went to Bibi Qeesha Mohd Faizal/Natasha Wong and Danyal Marczqui Rahmat Haron/Muhammad Iftittah Andi Mallabbang. In the optimist marathon race, Nur Farisya Syafiah Rodie won the overall title followed by Macy Mosom Sikayun and Izz Qasrina Chairullah, while the optimist novice overall top three places went to Malique Anaqi Mohd Norhaifiy, Nur Ezzati Alysha Abdul Karim and Yap Jia Ying. A total of 85 sailors took part in the annual event and the closing ceremony was officiated by Tanjung Aru community development leader Mohd Reduan Aklee. Oman emerge as overall champions in Gulf Games
Muscat: As curtain fell on the third Gulf Games in Muscat 2025, Oman emerged as the overall champions, leading the medals tally in a tournament that witnessed the participation of six Gulf countries over seven days. Oman secured an impressive 45 medals, comprising 20 gold, 18 silver, and 7 bronze. The UAE followed with 22 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze), while Saudi Arabia took third place with 18 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 8 bronze). In a thrilling conclusion, Oman's beach soccer team clinched the gold medal with a resounding 7-2 victory over Saudi Arabia, finishing the competition with 11 points. The UAE claimed the silver after defeating Kuwait 5-1, achieving 9 points, while Saudi Arabia secured the bronze with 6 points. Oman's long-distance swimming team also excelled, winning the gold medal in the 5-kilometre race. The Saudi team finished second, followed by Bahrain in third. In individual 5-kilometre competitions, Omani swimmer Ayman Al-Qasimi won the silver medal, and teammate Nidal Al-Harassi claimed bronze. The gold medal in this category went to Saudi swimmer Mohammed Al-Zaki. Oman's sailing team showcased dominance, earning seven medals across various events. In the Optimist boat general category, Omani sailor Khamis Al-Shamkhi secured silver, with compatriot Tartil Al-Hasani taking bronze. The UAE's Khalifa Al-Rumaithi claimed gold. In the Optimist girls' category, Tartil Al-Hasani clinched gold, followed by Bahraini sailor Malak Al-Dosari in second place, and Emirati Madiya Al-Niyadi in third. For the Optimist juniors, Omani sailor Mohammed Al-Qasimi won silver, the UAE's Zayed Al-Hosni took gold, and Qatar's Tamim Khalid earned bronze. In the ILCA 4 girls' category, Emirati sailor Marwa Al-Hammadi won gold, her teammate Al-Yazi Al-Hammadi took silver, and Bahrain's Amina Al-Sadiq claimed bronze. In the ILCA 4 boys' category, Oman's Abdul Latif Al-Qasimi earned gold, with silver going to Emirati Mohammed Al-Marzouqi and bronze to Bahraini Khalifa Al-Dosari. In the ILCA 6 girls' category, Emirati sailor Dohaa Al-Bushar secured gold, Kuwait's Amina Abdullah earned silver, and the UAE's Kamilia Khalifa took bronze. Wilson & Beckett lead nine-medal haul at sailing season opener
Emma Wilson and Micky Beckett were among nine British medallists at the Trofeo Princesa Sofia in Mallorca. The event is the opening regatta of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle. Two-time Olympic bronze medallist Wilson lifted the Princess Sofia Trophy, the regatta's main award, after she won 14 out of the 21 races in the foiling windsurfing."It's crazy – I wasn't expecting it at all," said the 25-year-old."There are names on this trophy like Ben Ainslie, people I've looked up to since I was a kid. To have my name on there now is pretty cool."Beckett won the men's dinghy fleet for the fourth successive year, and with a day to spare. 15 sailors to represent Asyad after Oman Sail Camp
MUSCAT: Oman Sail's Winter Training Camp at the Mussanah Sailing School concluded after two weeks focused on developing the skills of talented young sailors from across the nation. Out of the 49 sailors present at the Winter Training Camp, 15 were selected to represent the Asyad Sailing team throughout 2025. Following a series of impressive performances during camp, Hassan al Wahaibi, Tamim al Balushi, Saoud al Shaqsi, Firas al Nabhani, Abdulrahman al Hadi, Hassan al Araimi, Firas al Hashmi, Zakarya al Ghafri, Sami al Balushi, Hammad al Mujaini, Redah al Balushi, Mohammad al Balushi will compete in ILCA 4 class, while Abdulatif al Qasmi, Saleh al Balushi, and Aws al Busaidy will compete in the ILCA 6 class and represent Oman regionally and internationally. The also camp provided an opportunity for Optimist coach Sultan al Zadjali and ILCA coaches Munther al Kindi and Ahmed al Wahaibi to prepare the sailors, work on tactical and technical aspects of sailing and assess their physical fitness. Abdulaziz al Shidi, Oman Sail's Acting Director of Sailing, said, 'This was a great chance to assess the progress of our young sailors in Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and 29er classes. We are preparing the teams to compete in a variety of events this year, and we are happy to see the sailors embrace the opportunity to learn from each other and improve on the water shows how committed the teams are.' 15 sailors to represent Asyad after Oman Sail Camp 'This group of young sailors is incredibly promising in all categories, which bodes well for the future of sailing in Oman. Recently the Asyad Sailing Team has participated in the Oman Sail Winter Cup, held over four days from February 11 to 14, at Barceló Mussanah Resort, put 50 of the best young sailors from across Oman Sail's three sailing schools to the test in Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes. The Asyad Sailing Team will represent Oman in several regattas throughout the year, including GCC Beach Games in April, Oman Sailing Championships in August and the 13th edition of Mussanah Race Week in October.
