Iran appoints new IRGC intelligence chief after death of Mohammad Kazemi in Israeli strikes

Reuters Iran has appointed Majid Khademi as the new head of the IRGC Intelligence Organisation after the previous chief, Mohammad Kazemi, was killed in an Israeli strike last week. Khademi was the head of the Intelligence Protection Organisation at the Iranian Defence Ministry, according to a report by Iran International. Kazemi and his deputy, Hassan Mohaqiq, were killed in Israeli airstrikes on June 15. Their deaths were confirmed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Last week, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali announced the names of new army leaders after three senior Iranian military commanders were killed in Israeli strikes. Major General Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi has been named Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Ali Shadmani has been appointed Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, and Major General Mohammad Pakpour is now Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). In his decree, Khamenei described Bagheri's martyrdom at the hands of the 'malicious Zionist regime' as an honourable martyrdom and praised Mousavi's qualifications and prior service. Similarly, in appointing Shadmani to lead the Khatam al-Anbiya Central HQ, in place of martyred General Gholamali Rashid, Khamenei cited his leadership credentials and tasked him with enhancing strategic coordination, particularly in evaluating the combat readiness of the armed forces in cooperation with the General Staff. General Pakpour, formerly a key commander within the IRGC Ground Forces, was selected to replace the martyred General Salami.
