Inside the £150-a-night converted private jet on an Angus farm
A private jet has been converted into a £150-a-night short-term holiday let on an Angus farm. Conservative councillor and farmer Iain Gall bought the Hawker 700 on eBay for £25,000 in 2022. The 37-year-old estimates he has spent an additional £50,000 on the jet as he prepares to welcome his first guests. Iain hoped to have the getaway up and running in 2023, but due to a busy period on the farm and other holiday accommodations to manage, the project was delayed. He told The Courier: 'We have the planning permission and now we are just waiting for the short-term let licence. 'We intended to open in 2023, but I ended up taking on some other houses, and the farm has been really busy; it is one of those things that has dragged on. 'The plane was already converted, but we have had the cockpit walls wrapped in tweed. 'I wanted to keep the original interior with the captain's chairs and the leather. 'The only thing is the cockpit where the tweed boards have been put in to make it feel more cosy.' The jet sits on Iain's family's Glenskinno Farm near Montrose. The twin-engined British Aerospace aircraft was formerly owned by a Russian tycoon and featured on the TV show George Clarke's Amazing Spaces as it was converted into a living space in 2020. Iain says there was initially confusion with securing the short-term let licence due to the farm's land ownership titles being old, however, he expects it to be approved soon. He added: 'There has been a large amount of interest and people trying to book. 'I wanted to make sure it was ready. 'If you are in the plane, it is really nice, but it is quite small and difficult to stand up inside, so I decided to add a garden room. 'Even if it is a horrible day with the rain, guests can sit in there and look out onto the countryside. 'It is all well and good for me to think it is a good idea, but how do you actually live there for a couple of nights? 'There was never a rush, it was always going to be ready when it was ready.'

Scots farmer converts £25k aircraft he bought on eBay to quirky accommodation for couples
Iain Gall splashed out £25,000 on the aircraft on eBay which he has converted to quirky self-catering accommodation. A FARMER is offering holidaymakers the chance to live the billionaire lifestyle aboard a private jet – as long as they don't mind sleeping overnight in a field. Iain Gall splashed out £25,000 on the aircraft – which was formerly used by a Russian tycoon to fly between Moscow and the Caribbean – on eBay. After snapping up the Hawker 700 in 2022, Iain had the plane transported from Yorkshire by lorry to his Glenskinno Farm in Montrose, Angus. The aircraft, which is more than 40 years old, has now been transformed into self-catering accommodation complete with a quirky double bed in the cockpit and original flight seats. Priced at around £150 a night, Iain hopes to welcome his first guests in the summer. Iain, 37, said: 'We have already had a huge amount of interest on our Facebook page. 'There are a lot of holiday pods about but I thought this would be something a bit different and a wee bit of fun. 'We've also had lots of messages from plane enthusiasts asking questions and even a few old pilots interested in what we've done. 'It will definitely be something memorable for couples or kids to come with a parent if they love planes. 'I think staying overnight in your own private plane will be a unique experience for most. 'We are now just waiting on our short-term let licence being formally approved by the council then we will be good to go.' The plane previously starred on TV presenter George Clarke's Amazing Spaces programme where it had been kitted out and brought up to scratch. The twin-engined plane includes a bar and kitchen area, flatscreen TV and an extension has been added to the back for a large ensuite room with shower. Iain, a Scottish Conservative councillor, added: 'It was in really good condition and just needed freshening up.' Earlier this month we told how a vintage helicopter was up for sale with starting bids at just £200. The vintage Agusta A109a was up for grabs via an online auction website for Industrial Auctioneering Sweeney Kincaid and it could be the perfect copter for the enthusiast on a tight budget. The lightweight, twin-engine, eight-seat multi-purpose craft was initially produced by the Italian rotorcraft manufacturer Agusta and was the first all-Italian helicopter to be mass-produced. However, the lucky auction winner won't be able to take to the skies as the aircraft is not airworthy. Instead the online advert includes a note that the helicopter is for 'Trainee Engineers Aid Only.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
