Auburn basketball promotes Ian Borders to assistant coach, finalizing Bruce Pearl's staff
AUBURN — Bruce Pearl's 2025-26 coaching staff is complete, as Auburn basketball announced Friday it was promoting Ian Borders, formerly its director of scouting and recruiting, to assistant coach for the upcoming season.
Borders replaces Chad Prewett, who stepped down from his assistant role in May to pursue ministry. According to a release, Borders' new role will involve him in recruiting, player development, scouting and running Bruce Pearl Basketball Camps.
'Ian has a great eye for talent, is a tireless worker and a gifted videographer," Pearl said in a news release. "Now, he is going to have an opportunity to be on the floor with our players and will be even more directly involved in our recruiting."

Borders' first season as an assistant will be his eighth with the program. Previously, he was Auburn's video coordinator from 2018 to 2023. He was promoted to director of scouting and recruiting in 2023 and served that role the past two seasons.
'I'm extremely excited and grateful to continue to be a part of the Auburn Family in this new role,' Borders said in the release. 'Coach Pearl is the best coach in the country, and to learn and work for him the past seven years has been such a blessing. We've made a lot of history together, and I am thrilled to continue to do so in the years to come as an assistant coach.'
Before Auburn, Borders was Little Rock's video coordinator, under former Auburn assistant Wes Flanigan. He began coaching collegiately at Florida State, where he was a graduate assistant under longtime head coach Leonard Hamilton from 2015 to 2017.
