In just a few short years, Benson Boone has amassed a devoted global fanbase and released a string of radio-friendly tracks that have slowly but surely helped him break into the mainstream. While he's placed on the charts before, and even scored some huge winners, he had never reached the throne on one tally – until now.
Boone rises to the top of one of Billboard's most important radio rankings, and in the process, he makes history in a way few could have predicted.
This week, Boone reaches a career milestone, as his single "Beautiful Things" climbs to No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. The worldwide smash lifts from the runner-up rung to the highest spot on the tally, becoming his first leader on the list of the tracks that reach the total largest audience across stations in the U.S. that play AC music – a more adult style of pop.
Not only is this Boone's first No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, it also sets a new record. Billboard reports that "Beautiful Things" ascends to the top spot in its fifty-fifth week on the ranking. That's the longest journey to No. 1 in the history of the list.
The previous record holder was "If You're Gone" by Matchbox Twenty. That pop rock smash needed forty-two frames to reach the summit. Boone beats that showing by a wide margin, requiring several more months before finally claiming the highest rung.
As "Beautiful Things" steps into the spotlight, it knocks away another powerhouse: "Lose Control" by Teddy Swims. That track managed to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 — beating Boone's tune to that mark — and it also performed exceptionally well on the Adult Contemporary tally.
Swims's smash ruled for 32 out of its 67 total weeks on the list. It stands out as one of the most successful cuts in the ranking's recent memory.
While "Beautiful Things" is Boone's biggest success on the Adult Contemporary chart, it's not his only appearance. He's already placed four songs on the tally throughout his career.
His second-highest entry is "Slow It Down," which climbed to No. 18. More recently, "Sorry I'm Here for Someone Else" debuted at No. 24, and it's still present on the list at the moment, giving Boone a pair of winners.
Back in 2022, the singer-songwriter's early single "Ghost Town" reached No. 28, though it quickly vanished just one frame later.
