Arsenal need goals and see Igor Paixão as an affordable alternative

Arsenal need goals and see Igor Paixão as an affordable alternative Arsenal have added Igor Paixão to their list of potential transfer targets for this summer, The Times reports. The Feyenoord winger is said to be an alternative to the 'expensive' Nico Williams and Leroy Sané. According to the English paper, Mikel Arteta has prioritised strengthening his attack after Arsenal were forced to settle for a third consecutive second-place finish in the Premier League. The team scored 69 goals, 22 fewer than the previous season. Advertisement Paixão joins Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers on the Gunners' wishlist. Rogers seems to have a slight advantage over Paixão. 'Arteta likes versatile players and prefers to sign players with Premier League experience. The 24-year-old Paixão would be a cheaper option than Rogers.' Paixão has been under contract with Feyenoord since the summer of 2022. In Rotterdam-Zuid, the Brazilian has made 129 appearances so far, in which he has scored 39 goals and provided 29 assists. With this, Paixão has caught the attention of clubs from Europe. Olympique Marseille are said to have offered around 20 million euros, although Feyenoord were quick to turn that down. Eredivisie End of Season Review: Feyenoord

Final Position: 3rd Overview: Despite a poor start to the domestic season and losing their star striker in Santiago Giminez in the winter transfer window, a decent European campaign and a revival under Robin van Persie saw Feyenoord finish in third place and a shot at returning to the Champions League next season. Brian Priske struggled to win over the fans and convince the board following the departure of Arne Slot to Liverpool. Slot would always be a hard act to follow, and Priske struggled to do so. However, van Persie won eight of his 13 games in charge since leaving Heerenveen midway through the season, giving the fans some confidence going into next season. Player of the season: Igor Paixão It was another sensational season for Igor Paixão this year. The Brazilian forward ended with 18 goals and 14 assists in 47 games and a spot on the wish list for a ton of top sides across Europe this summer. Feyenoord have the 24-year-old under contract until 2029, so can demand a kings ransom for their star player who is valued at €25m by Transfermarkt. Young Player of the Season: Givairo Read 18-year-old Givairo Read was a standout at right-back for the side with a real breakthrough season. The former FC Volendam youngster played 33 games for the side this year, scoring three goals and grabbing seven assists. He finished second in assists for the side behind Paixão. Like the Brazilian, the Dutch full-back is set to be of major interest this summer to a number of sides. Summer needs: Replacing Giminez will be key this summer. The hopes are that Stephano Carrillo will be able to adapt to the league after he moved to the Eredivisie a few months ago. The side have already signed the Eredivisie player of the year in Sem Steijn who will be able to replace Paixão should the Brazilian depart this summer. For the side one of the big things will be getting players fit again, like Calvin Stengs. If the midfielder can rediscover his 2023/2024 form he will feel like a new signing. Saibari Running for Eredivisie's Top Award

Ismael Saibari's stock continues to rise in Dutch football after he was shortlisted as one of five nominees for the Eredivisie Player of the Season following a stellar run with PSV Eindhoven. The 22-year-old has racked up 13 goals and 14 assists across all competitions – nine and eleven respectively in the league – making him a standout performer in a side still in the hunt for the title as PSV trail Ajax by a single point with two games left. The result will be revealed live on ESPN on May 26 in Utrecht. PSV have tied down their midfield gem until 2028. PSV's director of football, Earnest Stewart, said: 'Ismael is technically gifted, fearless under pressure and hungry to learn. He's become a crucial part of our squad.' Possible Paixão departure from Feyenoord discussed: ‘It's in God's hands'

As per VoetbalPrimeur, Igor Paixão's may be in his final weeks at Feyenoord. In an interview with De Telegraaf, the 24-year-old Brazilian spoke about how likely a departure from De Kuip may be Paixão is in his third season at Feyenoord. The morning paper outlined that 'at least 35 million euros' must be put on the table for the winger to leave Rotterdam. Clubs from Italy, Spain and England reportedly have him in their sights. Advertisement 'I don't even want to think about it yet. I'm doing really well at Feyenood. If it happens, then it will happen. It's in God's hands.' Rotterdam and Het Legioen have earned a place in Paixão's heart. 'Thanks to the supporters here, I can honestly say that I felt at home here so quickly. It was quite a transition from Brazil. A different language, a completely different climate, a different culture. But those guys in the stands gave me such a warm welcome. I really want to repay them every week with a big smile and with goals. The same goes for the people at the club. Everyone is good to me.' Paixão recently told Brazilian media that he wants to play for Flamengo one day. The attacker was asked by the morning outlet whether he would choose a European top club or Flamengo, if the club came calling. 'You know where my heart is, right?', laughed Paixão. 'Flamengo is the club of my entire family…' GBeNeFN | Max Bradfield

AC Milan, Pulisic will need comeback to continue Champions League quest

AC Milan's mixed bag of a winter continued on Wednesday, with the club suffering a 1-0 defeat at Feyenoord in the first leg of their Champions League knockout playoff tie. An exit prior to the round of 16 would mark a disappointingly abrupt end to Milan's continental campaign, having entered the final day of the league phase with the chance to skip this initial round altogether before losing to Dinamo Zagreb and tumbling into the playoff. Advertisement The Dutch hosts scored early Wednesday, with Brazilian winger Igor Paixão tucking a shot past Mike Maignan at the near point in the game's third minute. Feyenoord did well to contain Christian Pulisic, who came off the bench on Saturday to provide two assists against Empoli. The U.S. international was industrious in his attempts to impact the game, but saw his teammates' passing lanes toward him cut down quickly to limit his touches. Pulisic exited the match in the 60th minute, having completed 18 of 22 passes and failed to attempt a single shot. He did manage to create one chance in the third minute, mere seconds before Paixão's goal. While Pulisic was neutralized, his Concacaf-rival-turned-club-teammate Santiago Giménez struggled mightily in his first appearance against his former club. The Mexico international, who joined Milan from Feyenoord just nine days ago, took 24 touches — just seven in Feyenoord's box — and failed to convert any of his five dribbles. His sole attempted shot was blocked, while he drew two whistles for running into offside positions. Giménez exited in the 83rd minute to little noteworthy ovation or jeers. GO DEEPER McKennie hands Juventus Champions League edge with spectacular strike The defeat continues a difficult stretch for Milan, which replaced manager Paulo Fonseca with Sérgio Conceição in late December. Now three years removed from their last Scudetto, Milan sits seventh in the Serie A table, four points behind Fiorentina for the final European position but having played one fewer game than all teams above them. Pulisic has remained arguably their most impactful attacker in his second season, but has scored twice in his eight most recent appearances across all competitions. The tie will conclude on Tuesday in the early Champions League time slot (12:45 pm Eastern) at the San Siro. Milan will see another U.S. international, Yunus Musah, return from his one-match suspension, as the midfielder drew a red card in the club's league phase finale against Dinamo Zagreb. Advertisement With fellow esteemed Americans Weston McKennie (Juventus, up 2-1 on PSV Eindhoven) and Gio Reyna (Dortmund, up 3-0 on Sporting CP) having their clubs in the driver's seat after their respective knockout playoff first legs, Pulisic and Musah will have work to do to get a leg up on the hurdle standing between them and a last-16 date against either Inter Milan or Arsenal.
