Juventus suffer fresh injury blow amid selection crisis in defence

There's worrying news from Turin as Juventus defender Renato Veiga trained separately this morning, potentially worsening Igor Tudor's selection crisis in defence for a key game at Venezia. Portuguese defender Renato Veiga did not train with the rest of the Juventus squad this morning due to a muscle issue, reports. According to the Turin-based media outlet, Veiga is dealing with muscle fatigue. It's pretty bad news for coach Tudor, given that Federico Gatti, another centre-back, continued to train separately on Friday, like central midfielders Teun Koopmeiners and Weston McKennie. Juventus are already without injured defenders Gleison Bremer, Juan Cabal, and the suspended Pierre Kalulu. The Bianconeri are fighting for a Champions League spot, and a win in the season's final game against strugglers Venezia would give them access to Europe's elite competition for 2025-26. Lloyd Kelly returned to action last week after recovering from a hamstring injury. As things stand, the ex-Newcastle defender is set to start in a three-man backline against Venezia, joining Alberto Costa and Nicolò Savona.

How Juventus line-up will change with Tudor in charge

Igor Tudor is expected to switch to a three-man defence at Juventus, relying on Dusan Vlahovic as the main striker. The former Croatian defender is set to replace Thiago Motta at the Allianz Stadium, aiming for a Champions League qualification. Under Motta, Juventus have mostly played with a four-man defence, but Tudor will surely change the formation and opt for a three-man defence. Multiple sources, including claim Federico Gatti will likely play as the right centre-back in Juventus' backline, although Pierre Kalulu can also cover the same position if Gatti plays in the middle. Lloyd Kelly and Renato Veiga are the most likely options to play on the left. Andrea Cambiaso and Tim Weah are tipped to play as wing-backs, left and right, respectively, while Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram will provide much-needed physicality in the middle of the park. Tudor has already said that he considers Vlahovic the best striker in Serie A, so the Serbia international is expected to regain his starting spot as a centre-forward. Several players can cover the other two spots behind Vlahovic: Kenan Yildiz, Teun Koopmeiners, Weston McKennie, Randal Kolo Muani, and even Samuel Mbangula. Juventus are expected to confirm Tudor's appointment by Monday so that the Croat will be in charge of Saturday's Serie A match against Genoa at the Allianz Stadium.
