This is when summer will officially start in Abu Dhabi
While humidity levels have started to soar, summer in Abu Dhabi hasn't actually started yet. The official start date for summer in the capital and the rest of the UAE has been announced and it doesn't officially get underway until near the end of June. According to astronomical calculations, the Abu Dhabi summer officially begins on Saturday June 21 this year. The summer start date is marked by the summer solstice, which is also the day with the longest period of daylight and the shortest night of the year in the hemisphere. In the summer solstice, the Northern Hemisphere experiences its maximum tilt towards the sun, resulting in the sun appearing at its highest point in the sky at noon. This phenomenon leads to the longest period of daylight and the shortest night of the year. During the Abu Dhabi summer, temperatures can often be in excess of 40°C – and in some parts of the UAE, it was as high as 50°C last year. Current astronomical predictions state that summer in Abu Dhabi will last until Monday September 22 – which marks the Autumnal equinox. So while we brace ourselves for the high temperatures, knowing how (and where) to keep is essential. Luckily, we have a few tips for you… Beat the heat with these Abu Dhabi summer activities Hit the slopes at Snow Abu Dhabi Credit: supplied Literally the coolest establishment in the city, Snow Abu Dhabi is now welcoming visitors to its snowy slopes. Brunch review: Ilios Restaurant & Beach Club in Abu Dhabi
If you picture the idyllic Greek getaway, it would probably look a lot like the Sunday Aegean brunch at Ilios Restaurant & Beach Club. Perched on Hudayriyat Island within Surf Abu Dhabi, the sun-drenched spot hits all the high notes: breezy Mykonos vibes, Mediterranean feasting and just enough glam to make you feel like you're starring in your own holiday montage. From the first salty breeze to the last beat dropped by the DJ, Ilios doesn't just do brunch — it throws a full-blown celebration of the good life. With two packages to pick from (soft and house beverages), the brunch menu is a collection of Ilios' MVPs. (Credit: Ilios Restaurant & Beach Club) Starters roll in like a delicious Greek parade: fresh marinated seabass with kumquats that almost (almost) look too pretty to eat; crispy courgette fritters; one of the best Greek salads you'll ever try; delicate marinated sweet peppers; crunchy calamari; and grilled octopus so tender it probably writes poetry. Then it's time for mains, when you get your pick from three of the menu's highlights. Creamy mushroom risotto? Check. Perfectly grilled seabass fillet? Check. Slow-cooked veal cheeks like the Greeks do it? Check. And just when you think it can't get any better – boom – dessert. There's only one option here, but it's okay because it's a crowd pleaser. A citrus eclair with Amalfi lemon curd and mixed berries that comes in just the perfect size to end a meal that will leave you just the right side of full. (Credit: Ilios Restaurant & Beach Club) As for the vibe? Well, there's a DJ bringing the Greek island party vibes and people surfing in the world's biggest wave pool. As the sun dips and everything turns glowy and gorgeous, you realise you haven't looked at your phone in hours (except when you try to catch the perfect wave on camera, of course). By the time the sun sets, the beats mellow and your camera roll is overflowing with golden hour magic, you'll feel like you've been living out your own Greek dream– only better, because it comes with lemon eclairs, surf waves and good vibes only. Ilios' Aegean Brunch isn't just a meal; it's a legend in the making – and trust us, you'll want an encore.

Ilios in Abu Dhabi
A singer, a saxophonist and a guy swallowing a sword – that's probably the sort of thing you'd picture if someone suggests dinner and a show, right? Well, at Ilios Restaurant & Beach Club, your meal comes with a different kind of show. One where you won't find a musical instrument, dancers or any swords in sight. Instead, it's all about Surf Abu Dhabi, the biggest man-made pool in the region, of which Ilios has uninterrupted views. As you walk in, you're immediately transported to a Greek island beach club. Earthy tones in blue and cream, gorgeous la bohème-inspired furniture and an infinity pool that almost steals the show from the surf… almost. (Credit: Ilios) But if you think that surf vibes make this a casual affair, think again. Ilios is as sophisticated as they come, whispering 'quiet luxury' throughout the entire experience, so dress accordingly. Before you even take your seat (go for the stunning deck if weather permits), you'll quickly notice what a well-oiled machine the team at Ilios are. Waiters move around like mind readers, catering to your every need – even the needs you didn't know you had. Feeling chilly? They'll hand you a 100 percent cashmere pashmina. Getting up to use the restroom? They'll pull out your chair every time. Not sure what to order? They'll recommend excellent dishes based on what you're in the mood for. Trust us – there's good service, and then there's Ilios' service. Plus, they also know the menu inside out – a menu that's Mediterranean-Greek-inspired with plenty of classic dishes to pick from. The Greek salad is hands-down one of the best you may ever have (yes, even if you're a seasoned traveller to Greece). The freshness of every ingredient is evident with each bite. Tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and olives are topped with a generous amount of olive oil and plenty of creamy, crumbly feta cheese. Yes, we're hyping up a salad this much. As you'd expect from any Mediterranean spot, seafood is king here. Don't skip the prawns, which come in a juicy tomatoey sauce with that aforementioned crumbling feta. A dish you'll struggle to share (sorry, not sorry). Seafood orzo is topped with a glorious mix of tender calamari, plump prawns, juicy mussels and flaky fish – all of which are gently simmered in a creamy tomato-based sauce. Hearty but still elegant. If you decide on the catch of the day, get ready to first inspect your not-so-little guy tableside before it's cooked to literal perfection. And fret not, meat-eaters won't be disappointed here. From lamb chops (exceptionally seasoned) to wagyu beef that's simply grilled (à la Med) over natural charcoal with a hint of herb seasoning. (Credit: Ilios) Prices may not be the most wallet-friendly, at Dhs200+ for meaty mains and seafood sold by the kilo at not quite the local fish market prices you might be used to, but you're getting bang for your buck with generous portions and produce treated impeccably well. If there's still space for something sweet, chocoholics need not look further than the chocolate lava dessert, where slightly bitter Ecuadorian dark chocolate mixes perfectly with the sweet vanilla ice cream. In between bites, you can catch surfers riding waves and hanging loose while a DJ on the decks adds to the chic Mykonos vibes – soundtracking your dinner as you enjoy the delicious food and the show on the water.
