The Easter eggs arrived at the home of her ex's new partner, Mirian Lira, who then shared the chocolate with her two children, according to People, who reported the story. The 32-year-old mother is believed to have been the target of the attack, with a note accompanying the fatal delivery that read: 'With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.' Upon consuming the chocolate, Mirian's seven-year-old son, Luis Silva, became 'immediately' ill, with his father having to administer CPR. The boy was rushed to hospital but passed away. 'The evidence suggests, based on several points investigated, that the crime was motivated by revenge and jealousy, given that the author's ex-husband is the current partner or boyfriend of the victim, who was poisoned along with her two children,' security official Maurício Martins told Brazilian news outlet G1 . "The police will continue working to strengthen this evidence and present her to the Judiciary to answer for this barbaric crime." Easter egg poisoning in Brazil goes wrong, leaving child dead, two critical
A seven-year-old child is dead and two more people are in a critical condition after a spurned girlfriend allegedly had poisoned Easter eggs delivered to the home of her ex-boyfriend's new partner. Jordelia Pereira Barbosa, 35, is accused of purchasing and poisoning the eggs herself before they were delivered to the home of her former boyfriend's new partner, Mirian Lira (32). 'With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter,' the Daily Mail reported a note accompanying the eggs as saying. Lira shared the eggs with her children, Luis (7) and Evelyn Fernanda (13), on receiving them last week. Luis immediately fell ill and died in hospital on Thursday, one day after consuming the spiked chocolate. Mother and daughter remain in a critical condition. Local reports allege this wasn't the first time Barbosa had conspired to poison Lira, with Imperatriz Online reporting she once tried to give her poisoned candies at a tasting session at the supermarket where she worked. Barbosa was arrested on a bus heading for her hometown on Thursday after authorities found receipts potentially implicating her in the alleged poisoning. She admitted to buying the chocolates, but not poisoning them, according to local reports. 'There are several indications that clearly point to this woman being the perpetrator of the crime,' Mauricio Martins, a Brazilian security official, wrote in a statement. 'The police will continue working to strengthen this evidence and present her to the Judiciary to answer for this barbaric crime.'
