Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom split: Couple ends engagement after 6 years

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are going their separate ways — again — after almost a decade together, People magazine confirmed on Thursday. The couple first met at a Golden Globes after-party in 2016 over In-N-Out burgers, but have had an on-again, off-again relationship for the past nine years. 'We were at the Golden Globes and we weren't together,' the Firework singer recalled during an episode of American Idol. 'So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs, and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend's hand — he wasn't even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, 'Hey that's my burger.'' The couple announced their relationship on Instagram a few months later, but split in 2017. Story continues below advertisement Perry, 40, spoke about it with candour during an interview on Alex Cooper's podcast, Call Her Daddy, while Bloom said the pair remained friends. Then, in 2018, the pair made an official appearance as a couple once again, this time at the Gala for the Global Ocean at the Opera of Monte-Carlo, in Monaco. Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom End Engagement, Break Up After 9 Years

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have called it quits. PEOPLE can confirm that the couple, who got engaged in 2019, have gone their separate ways. TMZ was first to report the news. Perry, 40, and Orlando, 48, met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016. At the time, they fought over an In-N-Out burger. "I met my boyfriend over In-N-Out. We were at the Golden Globes and we weren't together," she said during an episode of American Idol. "So I had my security guard grab 10 In-N-Outs and all of a sudden I see my boyfriend's hand — he wasn't even sitting at our table — he just swoops in and he grabs it and I was like, 'Hey that's my burger!' " Then, in May of that year, they made their relationship Instagram official after attending the Cannes Film Festival. By February 2017, the couple announced they'd split — but still remained friends. (Perry later opened up about the year-long break during an appearance on Call Her Daddy.) "We're friends, it's good," Bloom said of his split with Perry in April 2017. "We're all grown up. She happens to be someone who is very visible, but I don't think anybody cares about what I'm up to. Nor should they. It's between us. It's better to set an example for kids and show that [breakups] don't have to be about hate." Then, in February 2018, a source told PEOPLE that the couple was spending time together — but "not necessarily putting a label on it." "They are not girlfriend and boyfriend. They do seem very happy together though. Orlando always had the nicest things to say about Katy. He loves spending time with her," the source said. Months later, in September, they made their red carpet debut at as a couple at the Gala for the Global Ocean at the Opera of Monte-Carlo in Monaco. On Valentine's Day in 2019, Bloom got down on one knee, Perry later revealed during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Orlando had planned this for a while," a source told PEOPLE. "He wanted it all to be special." He even asked for her parents' approval beforehand. Perry and Bloom then announced that they were expecting a baby in the singer's music video for "Never Worn White" in March 2020. While the couple was set to wed in Japan in early summer 2020, they had to postpone their nuptials due to the burgeoning coronavirus pandemic. In August of that year, the couple welcomed their baby girl, Daisy Dove. (Bloom is also dad to son Flynn, 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.) A year later, Perry told PEOPLE that motherhood was "just the best in the world. It's the game-changer." She added, "My heart is so full, finally." Since then, the couple continued to support each other in their professional endeavors. In September 2024, Bloom presented Perry with her Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. That same month, Perry attended the premiere of Bloom's movie The Cut during the Toronto Film Festival. In September 2024, Perry opened up about Bloom's energy as a romantic partner during an appearance on Apple Music with Zane Lowe. "He's a real sage. We both have parts of ourselves. There's two parts of us, our highest good, and then our carnal, material self. Ego," she said of Bloom. "When the ego is running the show, then it's like, 'Whoa.' But when that's in check, then we're both something else." Speaking with PEOPLE in January 2025, Perry opened up to PEOPLE about navigating her personal life — including her relationship with Bloom — while on the road. "I've talked a lot about love languages and how important they are in learning your partner's love language, and even if it isn't your love language, tapping into that for them," the "Thinking of You" singer said. Most recently, during her Lifetimes Tour stop at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Perry jokingly accused a fan of "DM'ing my man" and asked them to stop. "Listen, if you keep DM'ing my man... Oh, Kyle? I know, I know. You've been doing it for months, ever since the [Play] residency," she told a fan in the crowd. "You didn't come to see me play," she said. "If you keep on DM'ing my man, I'm going to have you removed. Seriously, get your own life." Read the original article on People
