Myanmarese refugees in Del ‘warned' of crackdown
Aizawl: A recent circular from 'India for Myanmar' — an independent grassroots advocacy initiative based in New Delhi — has advised Myanmarese refugees in New Delhi to remain indoors unless absolutely essential, following intensified actions against foreign nationals residing in the national capital.
The notification also indicates that the new administration in the capital is resolute about identifying and removing unauthorised immigrants, particularly in light of the recent India-Pakistan military tensions. "
Bangladesh nationals and Rohingya from Rakhine state of Myanmar had already been deported while other Myanmar nationals are now being targeted," the circular issued by India for Myanmar said on May 29. The document additionally noted that the Indian branch of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided refugee information to Indian authorities.
