IIT-Madras' Zanzibar campus launches UG course in chemical process engineering
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras Zanzibar has launched a new undergraduate programme in chemical process engineering from this academic year.
The application for the programme, which is open to candidates of all nationalities, will close on July 6.
The four-year, full-time programme will offer a curriculum blending core chemical engineering fundamentals with practical laboratory work, industry-aligned projects and electives to encourage interdisciplinary learning.
The faculty team includes professors from IIT Madras, IIT Zanzibar and partner institutions. Candidates may apply before July 6. Apply at and for more details write to admissions@ .
The Zanzibar campus of IIT Madras commenced in October 2023 and programmes are open to all, including Indians.
Preeti Aghalayam, director-in-charge of Zanzibar campus, IIT Madras, said as a chemical engineer it was a pleasure to bring the programme to the institute. 'We believe that it will be a very meaningful step forward for the campus,' she said. The campus currently offers a 4-year BS degree in data science and AI and a 2-year M Tech in DS and AI and an M Tech in Ocean Structures.
Candidates who have qualified in class 12 or equivalent, with physics, chemistry and mathematics as mandatory subjects, may apply.
Candidates will undergo a screening test on July 13 at Chennai, Zanzibar and other locations. Online interviews will be held from July 25 to 31. Classes will commence on Oct 6.
The course will have a strong core in chemical process engineering with concentrations in data science, energy and sustainability. There will also be capstone project in coordination with the local industry, a release from IIT Madras stated.
