Ashfaq, Bismil's legend of poetry, patriotism retold

Lucknow: Legend of courage and patriotism of freedom fighters Ashfaqullah Khan and Ramprasad Bismil were narrated in 'Dastan e Ashfaq', organised by Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) on the centenary celebration of the Kakori Train Action, at the Kaifi Azmi auditorium on Sunday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The event was inaugurated by actor and drama veteran Anil Rastogi and critic Virendra Yadav. Storytellers Shahzad Rizvi and Farzana Mehdi narrated the stories. The duo shed light on friendship of Ashfaqullah Khan and Ram Prasad Bismil and said, "Not only poetry, it was also their love for socialism that brought them close." Farzana said, "Ashfaqullah Khan was a Muslim Pathan from Shahjahanpur and was a brave, intellectual, courageous and large-hearted human being with a robust physique." Shahzad said, "Ashfaq's passion since birth was reading poetry, but his temperament was 'inquilabi' (revolutionary)." Describing Bismil, Shahzad said, "Bismil was a vigorous, learned and handsome man and his name was given by his mother after Lord Ram, as she wanted to have a son like him." The incident of Maulvi Ahmadullah, the youth of Shahjahanpur, the Mainpuri case and cross-examination of Ashfaqullah's lawyer Hajela were also narrated. Throwing light on the Kakori Train Action, Farzana said, "The Kakori incident was not just about saving govt's treasury but also about shocking the cruel British giving out the message that Indians will not be subdued by their atrocities." At the end, the audience was in tears when the climax described the episode of the hanging of the revolutionaries. The script of the narration was written by Sachin.

Famous actor Aamir Khan, who has turned 60, is now counted among the veterans and senior actors of the film industry. However, when Aamir Khan was completely new to the industry, a veteran actor scolded him fiercely. Once on the set, he had a confrontation with a dreaded villain like Amrish Puri. Aamir Khan 's uncle Nasir Hussain was the director of the film in which Amrish Puri was working . Aamir was assisting his uncle as an Assistant Director. At that time he interrupted Amrish Puri. Enraged by this, Amrish Puri scolded Aamir on the set itself. However, later Amrish realized his mistake and apologized to the new Aamir. Before becoming a film actor, Amrish Puri was deeply involved in theatre. He performed in plays at Prithvi Theatre and with groups like the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). Guided by renowned theatre directors like Satyadev Dubey, he became known for his powerful acting skills. This experience in theatre helped him master his voice, expressions, and acting style, which later made him stand out in Indian cinema. The actor who often displayed his dominance over heroes on the big screen once got angry with Aamir Khan in real life. Actually, this whole incident is related to the 1985 film Zabardast, which also starred Rajiv Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar, Sunny Deol, and Jaya Prada. The film was directed by Nasir Hussain. Aamir Khan was present on set assisting his uncle Nasir during the shoot. During the filming of a scene, Aamir interrupted Amrish Puri two or three times in quick succession, which the veteran actor did not appreciate. Annoyed, Amrish Puri scolded Aamir harshly in front of everyone on set. However, what happened next might surprise you. Once Puri found out that Aamir was Hussain's nephew, his attitude changed completely. Realising his mistake, the veteran actor apologised to Aamir Khan.
